As an influential evangelical Iowan, Bob Vander Plaats experienced what it was like to be friends with Donald Trump. The New York billionaire invited Vander Plaats and his family to visit New York several times, refusing to allow them to pay to stay at one of his hotels and lavishing kindness.
Then Vander Plaats - president of the Family Leader, which is opposed to abortion and gay marriage - decided to endorse Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) for president instead of Trump. On Tuesday, Trump skewered Vander Plaats on Twitter, calling him "phony" and "a bad guy." The attacks came as Trump announced that Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. had endorsed him...

You do realize that Cruz pointed that out after Palin endorsed Trump, right? He also stated that he had no hard feelings for Palin and thanked her for her support in the past.
But let’s face it, we all know it’s Cruz who’s the mean, nasty, arrogant, “bad guy”... /sarc/
Given that the only time I ever recall seeing his name is in regards to his influence on elections by way of endorsements, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he was profiting from those endorsements.
And did you hear that he is Canadian? ;)
TRUMP will be as big or not more a man-child throwing tantrums like you won’t believe.
I dread the thought of what we will all be called when we first oppose him on abortion or gay marriage.... when he wants to “ cut a deal”
I agree
I am so tired of him calling people losers, bad, ugly, nasty. It starts to seem that from his point of view there are only HORRIBLE people who disagree with him and WONDERFUL people who agree with him, but no room for just people who are neither awful nor wonderful, just don’t agree with him. Who goes around calling so many people names like we are in fourth grade? He needs to stop saying people are terrible and losers and idiots. At some point it loses its punch.
As I’ve stated to more than a few liberals when discussing Mullah Obama, “And therein lies the danger of endorsing, accepting or becoming accustomed to dictatorial or autocratic power at either end of the political spectrum; right now, your guy’s calling the shots. At some point in the future, it’ll be someone else’s guy and you’ll be the object of HIS ‘attention’.”
Trump is worth billions of dollars. He has been generous in small ways relative to his wealth.
In Trump’s defense, it isn’t clear his finances were solid enough to allow him to be very generous until relatively recently. This isn’t unusual in real estate. Leverage and volatile market valuations often cause people in real estate real problems from time to time. Being flexible, moving money around, setting priorities as to what loses to accept in order to survive, these are part of the game. The banks that lend to real estate developers know the game, and do well considering the pluses as well as the minuses. Trump was pushed to the brink of personal bankruptcy in around 1990, and was forced to allow several of his properties to be sold off in foreclosure, or just short of foreclosure. He was hard-pressed again in 2008, when the financial crisis hit and he was caught exposed with Trump Chicago.
But, as he laid out in his filing, his debts are now relatively small compared to current valuation, in long-term, low interest loans, and his cash flow is very strong. Again, according to his filings, his income was well in excess of $300 million in 2014. It is natural for a person who has been so successful to be asked to make major contributions by churches, charities and political parties. Van Der Platts is not stupid for doing this, nor the Club for Growth, nor any other entity that has approached Trump.
According to Donald Trump, just about everybody in the world other than he is stupid, including people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama that he used to say were smart when he was a Democrat. So, Van Der Platts has a lot of company.
As some one that voted for Sen Cruz, I can say with out doubt the 1/2 term Gov of Alaska had no import in my decision.
If that's what you have heard then say so.
I'm just telling you what a Trump supporter was saying on a thread yesterday.
I doesn’t want my vote either evidently..
Strong =/= mean and nasty
I have several theories on that.
Any mistake or misstep that you see with Cruz at all?
I divested myself of cults of personality about 30 years ago. I back ideologies, not fictitious perfect men. Not only do I have some worries about Cruz, I've shared them openly. More worries about Trump far outnumber those concerning Cruz.
I'm a tremendous admirer of W.S. Churchill and John Adams, but neither were perfect and both had faults.
and do you hope the pretend christians/evangelicals are outed too? plenty of them in clergy, politics, all walks of life.
It’s in Ted’s emails and stuff that they have people coming from all over to do the ground work in Iowa. Not to stack the vote, but to organize, get out the word, etc. One guy was a Iraqi vet that was on an RV trip cross country. He heard about what was going on in Iowa with Cruz and headed there and has stayed for weeks!
Not sure if he is in the college dormitory or in his RV though!
We’ve already had one of those as POTUS.
It's interesting how according to Trump everyone is always begging him to do things. It seems no one ever simply requests or asks him. Everyone is always begging him. In Trump's mind, anyway.
Cruz is TELLING preachers in Iowa to break the law and demand their flock support him. This is how little Cruz thinks of Christianity and freedom!

Ted Cruz Wants Iowa Pastors To Violate Separation of Church and State
David Brody from CBN is reporting that Ted Cruz has asked Iowa pastors to violate the separation of church and state clause that allows them to have tax exempt status. He wants them to specifically tell their congregations that they have to caucus with Cruz.
For years we’ve heard how pastors can’t endorse candidates. And that the IRS will show up and revoke the church’s 501c3 tax exempt status. Ted Cruz has decided to say screw it once again when it comes to a law that gets in his way.
Brody reports “For Cruz, it’s pretty simple. He wins Iowa if evangelical pastors get behind him AND make sure the bulk of their congregations are caucusing on Monday night”.
So are pastors supposed to strong arm their congregations? Are they supposed to sit next to them and fill out their caucus form with them? By making this plea, Cruz has invited the IRS to these churches. And pastors and their flocks will pay a heavy price if this tactic initiates a full blown investigation.
But this is the Cruz strategy. Slash and burn. So what if a bunch of Iowa pastors lose their tax exempt status? As long as they force their flocks to “do the right thing”.
Ted Cruz has decided to use his faith as a campaign weapon. And there’s no way that God could endorse this behavior. Usually, I’m not fan of the IRS when it comes to this. But in this case, I say unleash the dogs of hell on these churches.
I would be equally outraged if any of the other candidates pulled this stunt. This will be the fourth law that Ted Cruz has broken. Failure to disclose large campaign loans. Taking laundered cash from corrupt donors. And he’s running for president as a foreign born naturalized citizen.
For Ted Cruz, this establishes a pattern that is more in line with democrat politicians. Ted Cruz calls himself the consistent conservative. But he’s only been consistent in trying to find ways around the law. Sounds like a slick lawyer to me.

Friendship, an alliance of purpose. Staying with Mr. Trump’s family didn’t imply an endorsement.
Or perhaps Cruz was actually friends with Palin, did that ever cross your mind!?
Not going to win over those Concerned Conservatives.
