A Ted Cruz-aligned super-PAC is out with new ads deepening Cruz's White House feud with Donald Trump by playing back the real estate magnate's previous praise of Cruz and questioning Trump's conservative chops.
The ads are part of a $2.5 million buy already announced by Keep the Promise I, which will run in Iowa and South Carolina this week, just before the Iowa caucuses.
The first ad plays audio from Trump's introduction of Cruz at the Lincoln Day Fundraising Dinner in Palm Beach, Fla., where the real estate mogul lauded the Texas senator as a "very popular and important future in all of our lives, and in this countryâs life."
"Now, one of the reasons I like Ted Cruz so much, is that heâs not controversial," Trump says in the ad. "But the truth is, he shouldn't be controversial because what he's doing is right...itâs common sense."
The second ad takes a common attack line against Trump, hitting his previous support of liberal policies. Abortion is the focus in this case.
"Conservatives and Republicans have a choice: should their nominee hold views more in line with Hillary Clinton or Ronald Reagan? Large majorities of Americans â including those that are pro-choice â oppose partial-birth abortion," Keep the Promise I President Kellyanne Conway said in a statement on the ad.
"The life of a child at 8 or 9 months gestation is not a political football; it is a matter of principle and conscience."
The ads are the latest evidence of the chill in the relationship between the two GOP presidential rivals who are atop polls in Iowa. Trump has sought to cut down Cruz by repeatedly bringing up his birth in Canada and questioning his eligibility to serve as president.

Here’s how much the Donald loves Movement/Tea Party Conservatives

Did they also return the money Trump donated to Ted for his Senate campaign?
Not sure on that one but I know the execrable McAuliffe did not return the 25k from his good friend Donald.
And Teddy played huggy with Trump and being a big fan of Trump.
The Cruz campaign would be much better off if it just focused on the issues and stayed out of the Trump briar patch.
See, there is no difference.
