Businessman Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz are in a virtual tie in Iowa where the primary season kicks off next Monday at the caucuses.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday found 31 percent of likely GOP caucus goers in Iowa back Trump, a few points ahead of Cruz, who received 29 percent support.

The poll found 13 percent back Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and no other GOP presidential candidate received more than 7 percent support. These results are unchanged from the last poll conducted in mid-January.

The Quinnipiac survey polled 651 likely Republican caucus goers between Jan. 18 and 24 with a 3.8 percentage point margin of error.

The polls are meaningless. Trump will bus in (tens of) thousands of people from out of state to vote.

The amazing thing is that Trump and Cruz combined have 60% of the IA vote, possibly more when you consider the internal error of the poll.

IA and the country is sending a clear message to the GOPe...”move over, it’s time for change!”

Hopefully, all the recent bickering will not irreparably damage both candidates...

Not my idea. There have a Trump supporter and possible Trump operative on a thread last night bragging about how they are going to bus in thousands to vote.

Good, I don’t want celebrity candidates who people flock to without any regard for their core values. This reality show-culture that makes heroes out of nobodies like the Kardashians is a blight on our times.

LOL, way to define expectations down. I'll take any win, but the internals of the poll show plenty of room for Cruz to surge to a big margin.

Among Iowa Republican Caucus-goers, 24 percent say they "would definitely not support" Trump, with 24 percent who would not support former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Only 12 percent say 'no way' to Cruz.

One things for sure, the voters of Iowa know which candidate is conservative judging by the poll’s internals. Conservatives love Cruz. Moderates and liberals love Trump (by a 6 to 1 margin!).

Cruz leads Trump:

50 - 34 percent among self-professed Tea Party members;
39 - 27 percent among white, born-again Evangelical Christians;
49 - 29 percent among voters describing themselves as “very conservative.”

Trump leads Cruz:

29 - 21 percent among self-identified “somewhat conservative” voters;
37 - 6 percent among voters claiming to be “moderate” or “liberal.”

I haven’t seen a single Trump television program.

I never saw any of Reagan’s films either.

At this point, the only core value I care about is stopping the muslim invasion. Trump is the only one with the stones to make it happen, and has proven his willingness.
