According to presidential candidate and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, there's one thing that more important to him than the country he's running to lead: his God.
In a remarkable exchange in New Hampshire, Politico reports, Cruz told reporters "I'm a Christian first, American second, conservative third and Republican fourth."
"I'll tell ya, there are a whole lot of people in this country that feel exactly the same way," he added.
Cruz, currently ranked second in GOP candidate polls according to RealClearPolitics, enjoys wide support among evangelical Christians in important, early-voting primary states like Iowa, where Cruz is locked in a tight race with current frontrunner Donald Trump. Cruz repeatedly accused Trump and his support of "more deal-making" and enjoying the support of unpopular "establishment" Republicans.
By proclaiming himself a Christian first and an American second, Cruz is professing higher loyalties than the United States â odd for a candidate who has repeatedly accused Muslims of doing much the same thing.

I would sincerely hope that any President would desire to preside over ‘all’ people whether they be Christians or not.
That makes very little sense to me.
Nonetheless, I too hope I am incorrect, I’m only stating what I’ve witnessed. It’s the meme that Christians want to halt all the stuff that the youth has been brainwashed into accepting - gay/birth control/abortion. It does NOT mean that I agree, I’m only stating that when these kids hear Christian, it’s become a knee jerk reaction for them.
It’s sickening really and I do my best to correct that erroneous thinking.
I only used parachute as an image of ones arms protecting me while this crazy world continues to fall. I’d take a rocket too!
Well may the Lord make His face to shine upon you.
Mary Dyer, the Quaker who was hanged on Boston Commons Jun 1st 1660 for preaching the Quaker faith. Salem witch trials. Ann Hutchinson.
Just to name a few who were persecuted by your Puritans friends.
More humans have been murdered and killed in the history of the world by established religion, than by any other means.
So go tell me again how well your established church has done in history.
Thanks for pointing out Mary Dyer and her fight with the colonial civil authorities. Hers is an interesting well publicized story that I will research, contemplate and pray about. Clearly her execution was a mistake and certainly her Puritan neighbors failed in many ways to love their enemy.
I think she was wrong, perverse, obstinate and victorious. It does not yet change my opinion about the much maligned Puritans in general.
I think the Quakers and the successful and determined promulgation of their heresies are responsible for a lot of liberalism today.
Matthew 5:43-48
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. ...
Acts 5:29
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Mary Dyer was my ancestor. The tales brought down through the ages were of how she originally was a puritan, they basically forced her out and after she went back to England to meet with people there, she converted to quakerism. She was taken back by the virtual hate and ruthlessness of the puritans back there and wanted nothing to do with them. It was said she met with Cromwell and her mind was changed after that meeting.
The most important thing is he’s not a New Yorker. The New York Values candidate in the White House would be a step down in moral character even from Clinton.
Apparently they tried repeatedly to banish her to no avail. The story about her baby is very sad also.
1. God.
2. Family.
3. Country.
What's the problem? I suspect most right thinking Freepers have the same.
Better a New Yorker than a Glenn Beck bootlicker.
Yup, and the relgiuos zealouts then proceeded to go after her children, which resulted in the formation of the seventh day baptist church...the forrunner of the present day babptist.
So your little snarky swipe at the Quaker faith proves exactly what type of self angrandized individual you are.
DO NOT REPLY TO ME ANY MORE.
