According to presidential candidate and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, there's one thing that more important to him than the country he's running to lead: his God.
In a remarkable exchange in New Hampshire, Politico reports, Cruz told reporters "I'm a Christian first, American second, conservative third and Republican fourth."
"I'll tell ya, there are a whole lot of people in this country that feel exactly the same way," he added.
Cruz, currently ranked second in GOP candidate polls according to RealClearPolitics, enjoys wide support among evangelical Christians in important, early-voting primary states like Iowa, where Cruz is locked in a tight race with current frontrunner Donald Trump. Cruz repeatedly accused Trump and his support of "more deal-making" and enjoying the support of unpopular "establishment" Republicans.
By proclaiming himself a Christian first and an American second, Cruz is professing higher loyalties than the United States â odd for a candidate who has repeatedly accused Muslims of doing much the same thing.

And how exactly is he portraying himself? Because I have yet to see any 'holier-than-thou' behavior coming from Ted Cruz. Keep in mind that he is not the candidate here who openly says he doesn't need to ask for forgiveness.
Fair enough. I take it quite literally.
He’s not running to represent We the People. He’s running to represent his own particular sect of ‘’Christianity’’. He has made that crystal clear.
He’s trying to turn Caesar into an ‘’arm’’ of that sect. This doesn’t work for anyone but the people of that sect- not God, not the Constitution, & not the people to whom that Constitution applies.
So far, Cruz is the exact opposite of everything he claims.
Wrong.
“or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” would be “expression”
Cruz could have said something like “The Marines say ‘God, Corps, Country’. I’m not a Marine - so I would put family instead of Corps.”
He seems to be doubling down on it, too. Risky strategy.
It's also in keeping with the traditions of our founding fathers- who constantly proclaimed their faith, and appealed to God for guidance in all phases of our founding and history.
(Unfortunately, most people don't have even basic knowledge of our history.)
I'm sure this statement from Cruz, is very upsetting to those who are actively seeking to remove every facet of Christianity from our nation too.
So there, in the sovereign people is the first authority above government.
The second higher authority and above everyone is God. He created all men equal. No one is born with a crown on his head. From this fact of God-given equality, it follows that all earthly governing power flows from the consent of the governed.
From our Declaration, the sole purpose of government is to secure our God given rights.
It has nothing to do with a theocratic government, yet our Constitution is consistent with Natural and God's Laws.
A devout muzzie must reject the Christian-based American tradition and can therefore NEVER be a patriotic American.
A devout muzzie must reject the Christian-based American tradition and can therefore NEVER be a patriotic American.
This is the dangerous part to me. I am by no means a Muslim apologist, far from it, but this could conceivably apply to any religion that is not Christian.
That your logic ends up there is the troubling part. It shouldn’t, IMO. Especially the “NEVER” part.
The priorities of the President of the United States consists of the defense of both the People and Constitution of the United States. And through my personal life priorities of placing God first, I will apply the Judeo-Christian Principles that this Country and our Constitution were founded upon to accomplish this.
Well, this ‘’constitutionalist’’ tripe, for one. He’s not even eligible to be president!
He’s NOTHING he portrays himself to be. He lies & he spins & he obfuscates. . . he ‘’forgets’’- it’s disgraceful. He’s supposedly so ‘’smart’’, but he’s too stupid to even pull off a simple lie. Or else there’s something wrong with him, mentally.
He’s even put out all these you tube videos SHOWING what a phony he is.
He’s blatant. Just like 0bama. He just happens to be YOUR 0bama, so then, it’s fine.
How ANY other person interacts with God is not your business or my business or ANYBODY’S business. It is between them and God- period.
Your sect is taking ‘’confession’’ now? Or rather demanding it. Real Christ-like.
LOL And you have the audacity to bring up ‘’holier that thou’’. REALLY.
Your words and photo implied it. Am I incorrect?
Who does one swear to ,when one swears to uphold the Constitution?
I see that logic is not your strong suit.
I'm glad that Ted stated his priorities plainly. The bully pulpit is one of the greatest tools of a president, and we should be glad that he isn't shy about stating his belief in God.
He is shifting the "Overton window" on religion with statements like this.
LOL Irony!
This seems to be an example of that. Water to Flint, MI but only to those he deems worthy. Is that the way we want a President to serve? Only those who are worthy and punish the rest?

Volunteers for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s Republican presidential campaign will be distributing water on Wednesday to residents of Flint, Michigan — but apparently, only to anti-abortion groups.
Wendy Lynn Day, the Michigan state director for the Cruz campaign, announced on Facebook last week that the water will be delivered to crisis pregnancy centers for “expecting moms and moms of little ones.”

Evidence?
Really? Now you have sunk to quoting HuffPo in your desperate desire to slime Cruz? How pathetic...
(shrug) :-) Works for me. Go Cruz GO. BURN those bridges!
