While he's not making an official endorsement for the presidency in 2016's GOP primary, at least not yet, Sen. Jeff Sessions is calling on the people of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to very carefully pick a candidate they think can "negotiate better" when it comes to trade deals.
He laid out the case for why Republicans must nominate a candidate who opposes the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the accompanying two global trade deals that would come with it: The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). All three deals, along with the fast-track Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that greases the skids for the eventual easy passage through Congress of each of the deals since TPA lowers the Senate's 60-vote threshold to just 51 votes and kills the ability for amendments, have become collectively known as "Obamatrade."
President Obama's administration has since released the full text of TPP but the administration is holding the deal back for now, presumably waiting to formally introduce ratification legislation to Congress until a timeframe that would allow them to time it so that a vote in Congress would come up during a lame duck session after the November 2016 elections.
"There's no doubt that the pro-TPP people understood that there was a strong and growing opposition to this agreement," Sessions told Breitbart.
It's worth noting that 2016 GOP frontrunner billionaire Donald Trump has made this type of trade policy Sessions is talking about a centerpiece of his presidential campaign. While Sessions isn't endorsing anyone at this time officially, he has appeared with Trump at a Trump campaign rally in Alabama earlier this election and also held a meeting with him at the U.S. Capitol during the campaign. Sessions also helped Trump with his immigration reform plan.

Deals? Trump
TPA? Cruz voted for what Sessions despises.
This is the one item that made me stop fully backing Cruz. But then Trump is a liberal at heart, so who knows what we get with him.
But both are better than anyone else running.
THIS !!!
Manufacturing has increased in the United States in the past decade. Wages are suppressed by unfettered immigration. Trade wars will not turn out the way Trump supporters think it will.
We are in a one sided trade war NOW.
55,000 factories closed and 12 Million people lost their jobs in the last 12 years. These factories were not making buggy whips...
Thanks.
Yup it was Cruz cheer leading the TPA vote that caused him to lose a great many working class/conservative votes. He never recovered from that, just like Rubio never recovered from flip flopping on amnesty.
Sessions thru the flowers endorsing Trump.
Cruz voted against TPA.
The whole Chinese industrialization “miracle” of the 1980’s and 1990’s was just an artificial creation made possible by massive collusion between governments and had nothing to do with free markets. It has now spread thru out the Pacific rim.
Cruz voted FOR TPA at the same time as he was STILL pushing huge increases in H1B visas. He said research shows that immigrants create jobs.
Then he said he didn’t know that program was being abused. (Although Disney was splashed all over the news.)
And he didn’t know McConnell lied to him about TPA
And he didn’t know Corker/Iran wasn’t the best we could do.
And he didn’t know he was a Canadian citzen.
And he didn’t know he had to file official paperwork on a loan.
And he didn’t know he should have told Texans in his Senate race that he has a Canadian birth certificate.
And he didn’t know that Glen Beck is a loon.
Here is the first part of Cruz and Paul Ryan’s joint op/ed in the Wall St Journal, LOBBYING FOR TPA.
This is when I stopped supporting Cruz, as his fraud became quite apparent.
Putting Congress in Charge on Trade
âFast trackâ authority will give lawmakers more say over agreements that are vital for economic growth.

The United States is making headway on two historic trade agreements, one with 11 countries on the Pacific Rim and another with Americaâs friends in Europe. These two agreements alone would mean greater access to a billion customers for American manufacturers, farmers and ranchers.
Uh oh. Looks like Sessions is starting to virtue signal to the Trump camp.
Do you like the deals currently in place?
Do you like that TPP allows nations we trade with to import workers?
I think this is what they call a dog whistle. Sessions for Trump. More bitterness for the other candidate’s already saddened supporters.
Cruz voted against TPA.
Sorry, Flip Flopping TPA Teddy was for it before he was against it.
Sen. Cruz: Trade Promotion Authority Creates a Path for Prosperity
WE MUST ENGAGE THE GLOBAL ECONOMY TO IGNITE GROWTH AND OPPORTUNITY AT HOME
May 22, 2015 | 202-228-7561
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), today released the following statement regarding legislation to establish trade promotion authority:
“The American middle class is getting crushed by the Obama economy,” said Sen. Cruz. “Middle class incomes are stagnating, and the labor force participation rate has not been this low since the Carter Administration. While I have serious concerns about the all-too-typical Washington backroom deals that enabled this bill to get to the floor, I could not in good conscience vote against a bill whose most significant impacts will be jobs, growth, and opportunity for struggling American families.
“By passing Trade Promotion Authority, we create a path for trade agreements to reduce government-created barriers to prosperity. More economic growth will expand opportunity to those working to climb the economic ladder and achieve the American Dream.
“This bill increases the transparency of trade deals considered under its rules. It requires the public posting of the full text of any such agreement for at least 60 days before Congress begins consideration and reaffirms that Congress gets the final say. It would enable both this President and the next to expand trade that benefits American workers.
“This legislation ensures the United States will not be stuck on the sidelines as China aggressively pushes the 19 trade agreements it currently has under construction. It sends a message to the world that the United States will play an active role in writing the rules that will govern international trade this century. The cost to peace and prosperity of doing otherwise is too great to let this opportunity pass.”
Yup it was Cruz cheer leading the TPA vote that caused him to lose a great many working class/conservative votes. He never recovered from that, just like Rubio never recovered from flip flopping on amnesty.
