From BBC News: One startling feature of the latest race to become the next president of the US â which begins in earnest with next weekâs Iowa caucuses â is the runaway success in the opinion polls of the outspoken billionaire, Donald Trump. But this should not be so surprising, says Michael Goldfarb, as Trump is just the latest example of a tendency in American politics that goes back a very long way.

Trump is the next president!
Deal with it!
More liberal tripe.
He is the king of negativity. His constant praise is only for himself. His trashing of all who dare not to kiss his butt is a trait of the left. It is divisive and in case you have noticed about 70% of voters polled have not fallen for it. Reagan NEVER personally trashed anyone with different views. Cruz has NEVER personally trashed anyone with different views.
Trump is the politics of patriotism, common sense and freedom.
Yet you have to wonder, why the BIG crowds at Trump’s rallies and not at the other canidates rallies, not even Cruz’s?
That even surprises me as well. You would think Cruz would get bigger crowds of people.
Well at least at this point Americans are not sitting back with hopey , changey, daffy smiles while our country is taken over by savages, BBC. Many of us fearful people want to prevent the total fall of our country to match the UK or Europe.
Trump supporters are motivated by fear and paranoia? Nah. More like anger and unapologetic American nationalism.

There’s the entertainment factor, but it goes deeper than that.
A lot of Trump supporters are looking for more than a politician, if you get my drift. It’s been a very bad 8 years, so it’s somewhat understandable.
democrats spread fear/paranoia
nativism = pro America
Love your graphic. The queen of negativity has been here and posted her hatred already. Never one nice post from that one. That in itself is sad. A lot of Cruz supporters post good things about Cruz without trashing Trump, but I have yet to read one from her without venomous Trump comments.
According to your logic, about 90 percent haven’t bought what Cruz is selling.
For the sake of argument, let us accept the premise.
Well, then who brought this about?
Cruz was my guy, but its over.
He is young enough to run again.
Are there Not rapes and murders and DWI murders and maiming by illegals? beatings by illegals? theft by illegals? see, you jerkoff if it was paranoia, then those things wouldn’t be real.
fear. yeah, i’m allowed to fear for my family you #####.
cursing in italian and english right now.
get them the hell out of here already, for God’s sake.
“Michael Goldfarb, as Trump is just the latest example of a tendency in American politics that goes back a very long way.”
Yeah, it goes clear back to G. Washington when the world empire was Britain. Now BO wants to relinquish our sovereignty to the Un empire where the UK holds great power. The BBc should piss off.
Politicians have created the situation we find ourselves in. Americans have cause to be sick and tired of politicians. It is not at all surprising that they are drawn to a successful businessman. I am sure the thinking is, “he couldn’t possibly do worse and he could very likely do a lot better. I think I’ll give him a chance.”
Oh yes that is right. People have had enough.
liking Cruz was not the same as hating Trump!!
i’ve worked blocks from his buildings. he’s a good choice too.
and he’s gonna win, so why bother arguing still?
he’s gonna have to reach out to Cruz supporters to win.
the left is the enemy. time to focus on them.
