Sen. Joni Ernst is set to appear on the campaign trail Monday with Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio with only a week until the Iowa caucuses kick off.
Ernst, who maintained she is remaining neutral in the race, will be introducing Rubio at an event in Des Moines.
"Our nation faces exponential threats, and over the past year, I've had the opportunity to work alongside Marco Rubio on issues critical to our national security," Ernst said in a statement. "Marco is not only a strong conservative and a good friend, but someone that I trust to secure our country."
"As I have made clear, I will not be endorsing in the caucuses; that is a promise I will maintain to Iowans," Ernst continued. "On Monday, I look forward to introducing Marco to more Iowans and discussing the important work needed to keep our nation safe and secure."
The news of Ernst's appearance comes a day after longtime Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley appeared at Donald Trump's rally in Pella. Grassley is also reportedly set to introduce Cruz at a post-debate campaign event on Friday evening in Vinton, according to a Cruz spokeswoman.
The Rubio campaign is looking to capitalize on momentum from Saturday, when they snagged endorsements from the Des Moines Register, Iowa's largest newspaper, and the Sioux City Journal over the likes of Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz, who are currently topping polling in the state according to the latest RealClearPolitics average.

Another disappointing tea party RINO.
Looks like another tea party candidate is actually part of the GOPe.
The Cheap Labor Express toadies are outing themselves
That’s DC. One big party.
I ranked all over this Ayotte clone when she was running...I caught so much flak...well look who’s the one who saw through this hack wench....get back at me now FREEPERS.
If Trump & Cruz both fall by the way side, I may vote for Rubio over Jeb! & Kaysick. My primary in WA state is among the last.
Yea Joni Another wonderful tea party candidate....like scot brown, mia love, nikki haley and the other traitors. SMH
Both of Rubio’s Parents were not Citizens of the United States of America at the time of his Birth.
If he gets the nod, the Democrats will be taking him to Court to disprove his NBC Status. Don’t doubt me
But campaigning with Rubio.
Sheesh, these politicians are just awful.
This is disappointing.
Of course they will. One lawsuit has already been filed. the lawsuits can drag on for years. Considering that he has noting to offer in terms of experience or solutions, why bother with him.
Iowa Republicans should contact her pronto to say they will withhold contributions from her if she promotes Rubio.
Yep. Sarah Palin spent a lot of time campaigning for Joni to help get her elected. What a disappointment.
Notice that with all the Cruz NBC Threads, nobody mentions Rubio’s own problem with it?
What is odd about Joni's stand is endorsing the guy endorsed by the Des Moines Register that trashed her.
Remember what TEA party stands for? TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY. They are mainly fiscal conservatives, not social conservatives/evangelicals. Rubio, Paul, etc are just fine with Tea partiers.
I do not see Ernst as back stabbing Palin, by supporting Rubio.
Palin supports Trump.
Trump’s main opponent in Iowa is Cruz, not Rubio.
Both Rubio & Ernst are Tea partiers....Taxed Enough Already party.
Read an article, recently, that said for this past crop of conservative Reps we sent to DC, McConnell/Bonehead decided to woo them in to the fold - with toasts of Patomac koolaid (hint, hint) - rather than ostracize them, as before.
Looks like it’s (sadly) paid off :(
“Joni should have remained at the least neutral. She backstabbed Palin and others.”
I totally agree with that. This was not a smart move on Joni’s part.
