All but a couple of FReepers were for the Keystone Pipeline.

It was a big deal that Obama had blocked it. We called him all sorts of names. I thought he was an idiot. I thought most folks agreed with me.

An then a funny thing happened on the way to the Keystone pipeline.

All of a sudden, many FReepers went ape-s##t on the issue of eminent domain.

Now none of them want Keystone.

What a hoot.

Keystone needs to use private eminent domain just like Trump did. Sorry Keystone, Trump was the kiss of death to you.

All hail the lynching of Trump.

Is that true? Nope. However, it was true that FReepers did oppose eminent domain abuse and in particular the outrageous Kelo v. New London CT Supreme Court ruling. After Trump, however, people like you support big government power - across the board.

Everything with, for and about Trump is flexible.

You don’t have to construct strawman arguments. Just say your a Trump guy who does not believe in property rights as a natural right. Just make the leap to statist. Like Trump.

Not true.

I didn’t change my mind about Keystone.

I have a large natural gas pipeline on the edge of my property. Eminent domain was not used to get an easement for access/use. The original property owner was paid to secure the easement without government force.

Eminent domain should not be used to take private property from owners for private projects unless the project is considered an issue of national security and involves a court review.

This topic is a waste of oxygen. There are hundreds of thousands of miles of pipeline buried underground in this country, and now all of a sudden it’s a hot topic. Let’s focus on hundreds of thousands of invaders coming into this country. There will be several 911s and some are worried about pipes and frogs.

Apparently none of them drove or flew to work this week. Absurd. Telling that the best they can come up with is a lady’s house that’s still there 25 years later. She didn’t sell it to Trump for $5,000,000 but her kids sold it for $500k after she found a nursing home. I wish I could do smart investments like these TRUE conservatives. Not.

There’s a huge difference between using ED for major public works like pipelines or roads and golf courses, hotels, casinos. or limo parking lots. There’s a difference between using it for military bases and the things that Kelo allows for, such as tearing down someone’s house to build a bigger one that can be taxed higher.

Trump supports Kelo. He can pretend that he’s only for using ED for its proper use all he wants, but he has publicly endorsed a decision that allows it to be used to enhance personal wealth.

I’m sure this will be said somewhere downthread, but he needs to distinguish between Kelo and eminent domain the way it has always been. It can’t just be for higher taxes.

As a freeper said at the time of Kelo, “It’s socialism funding itself.”

In so many issues, the problem is solved by a careful dissection.
