Martial law has been decalred in New York City. This comes in response to this year's biggest snow storm.
The New York Police Department is threatening to arrest anyone on the road. They are calling it a "travel ban."
"After 2:30 p.m and you're on the road, we will arrest you @NYPDChiefofDept says," NYPD says.
"Stay off the road, @NYPDChiefofDept says. We don't want to have to arrest you."

I guess you have to like dictatorships if you want to live in NYC.
“travel ban.”
In the United States of America?
Walking, too?
Whatta bout private vehicles with plows?
Read the other thread about the National Guard being called out to help hundreds of stranded motorists on the Pennsylvania Turnpike since yesterday -- including bus loads of people traveling home from the March for Life in Washington.
If you want the government to come and rescue you when you're in trouble on a public road, then you shouldn't complain when they tell you to stay off the roads in inclement weather.
Well in the snow belt, travel bans on major hiways are possible due to inclement weather such as blizzards. Now if they had a ‘you go and get your stupid ass stuck, then you`re on your own, you can freeze to death if it`s that important’ alert I`d be cool with that.
I’ve driven in one of CT’s ‘travel bans.” We have maybe 6-8” of snow on the ground and the roads have been plowed several tines. It’s called common sense, access conditions in the area you plan to travel (i.e. city, suburbs, country, hills, etc) and you vehicle’s ability to travel in said conditions and make a appropriate decision.
Or charge some ghastly high price for a rescue...
This is a nanny state phenomenon.
If they could really ding you hard for a rescue and made THAT public, I think this would work better, but then the state would not be able to bill itself as nanny any more and that would hurt their pride.
Might just as well be under martial law, for a couple feet of snow. I can understand a advisory to stay off the friggin roads, but they have thousands of plows! Plus all general use trucks were fitted with front end plow blades. Thousands more...
This is a bad sign....but it all fits with the end days of the Republic.
They should arrest them.I think we got close to 2 feet of snow here.Firemen could not get to fires because of stuck cars.
People want to risk their lives I`m cool with that, as long as they just freeze to death on their own and don`t expect others to risk their lives saving their retard @sses. I mean it`s that important to get somewhere in a blizzard that they gotta risk their lives and those who`d be tasked with saving those sorry @sses, right?
They will arrest you if you are off the road also.
Nanny state, Heat.
There could be a respite yet with some spiritual renewal of the land. Not permanent respite, but God wasn’t promising that ever.
Once more a free market solution would look like: you need a rescue during these conditions, we do it, but we hock your firstborn as well. Or if you can find a company to do it cheaper, have at it.
So I guess I'm lucky I wasn't stopped and arrested.
On the other thread about the Pennsylvania Turnpike snow emergency, some Freepers were complaining that all those people were stranded because the road wasn't closed.
Go figure. LOL.
I can agree with that.
That’s what they do here in AZ. If they post a certain part of a road as impassible (like a low spot under an overpass after a heavy rain), and you go in and get stuck, you have to pay for the rescue. They call it the “stupid motorist law”. That way if it really is safe for your vehicle, and you go through, no harm no foul, but if you ignore it and end up endangering yourself and them and creating the expense of a rescue, you have to pay. Makes perfect sense to me.
Well the logical answer would be to issue a, ‘You should not go, but if you do, we will not lift a finger to save you, so go on and die of hypothermia if you`re that stupid.’ alert, right? Hey, I`m cool with that.
