Aberdeen [Scotland]: once-rich oil city now relying on food banks
Guardian UK ^ | 23 January 2016 | Terry Macalister

Local charities say food parcels have doubled in a year as people used to earning good money in the oil and gas sector have fallen on hard times __ Former oil workers are queuing up to use food banks in Aberdeen, formerly one of the UK’s most prosperous cities, as 12-year lows in the price of crude this week propel the North Sea industry deeper into crisis.

Hundreds of staff are being laid off every week as producers, drillers and service companies slash their spending in moves which are hurting local businesses, from estate agents to hoteliers and taxi drivers.

Those claiming out of works benefits in the north-east of Scotland rocketed by 72% in December and the total number of UK oil-related jobs lost could already be 70,000, with some predicting 200,000 out of 400,000 could eventually go.

This is what happens when people aren’t smart enough to put some money away during the good times.

Yeah well here too thanks to our president and greedy globalists and muslims who do whatever they can to prevent other countries from becoming energy independent.

Well, Aberdeen Maryland is in somewhat decent shape, except for 2-3 ft of fresh global warming.

This would be a great time for the US to help its economy by adding a couple billion gallons to the strategic oil reserve.

I understand the sentiment, but when people are unable to plan with some sense of stability you end up with the demographic nightmare now facing Europe and the US: Nobody has children or buys homes. They live as nomads, with no commitments - which is understandable - but in the end they are simply turning over the nations built by their forefathers to Third Worlders.

You can go pretty much anywhere in New Hampshire and see the same sight:

  1. Old mill by the side of the road, defunct.
  2. Driveway leading from road to defunct mill.
  3. Two or three goodwill drop-off boxes on the driveway.

That scene is duplicated hundreds of times across the state. And - for that matter - across the northeast.

Last time I heard the subject mentioned, Obama was withdrawing petroleum from the strategic reserve and selling it.

And Aberdeen may join all the other abandoned or impoverished former oilfield and mining towns across the globe. It is just the nature of the business.

I fear that’s about to start happening here in Houston. Lots of people have lost their jobs and more losses are coming.

Europeans, like Americans, have been addicted to immediate gratification for some 70 years.

Our societies are now the fruit of that. We’ve aborted most of our replacements and contracepted the rest.

Third Worlders never build anything of value. All they do is take over things built better than their societies could produce. It’s going to take a lot of blood to get it back to where it should be, if it’s to happen.

If some of them are musicians, at least give the fiddler a dram
