In 2013, the tea party rallied to Matt Bevin against Donald Trump. RedState and tea party groups around the country swung into action in an ultimately unsuccessful bid to get Matt Bevin through the primary against Mitch McConnell. We were completely out-funded by establishment interests and Washington lobbyists.
It turns out, one of those establishment interests was Donald J. Trump.
In 2013, Donald Trump gave $220,000.00 to organizations, many of them dedicated to stamping out the Tea Party. From Karl Roveâs American Crossroads to Mitch McConnellâs Super PAC, Trump spread out money. Rove got $50,000.00 and McConnell got $60,000.00. Trump also wrote a check to McConnellâs campaign directly for $5,200.00.
Whatâs more, Trump also gave $100,000.00 to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican Establishment PAC that was created to crush conservatives at the behest of John Boehner.
Running as an anti-establishment Republican now and courting Sarah Palin is a distraction from two stark facts.
In 2010, with the rise of the Tea Party, Trump supported Democrats against conservatives. In 2014, Donald Trump supported the Republican Establishment as it sought to crush the tea party and conservatives.
It is seriously disingenuous to think Trump is somehow now against the very candidates and organizations he funded just two years ago â candidates and politicians he is already again starting to say nice things about.
It is disturbing. It is scary. It is crass.
But it’s what’s goin’ on.
I’m New York born and raised. Ted was right on target with “New York values.” We all know what he meant, and I agree with him.
What offended me was the politicization of 9/11. That demeans the brave first responders.

Formatted, cleaned up and summarized my me from another article here:
He sent out at least one attack tweet directed at Bevin during the primary over an issue where Bevin said he got a certification in something from MIT, but when someone on McConnell's team called the school, they said he hadn't attended:
"As someone well versed in job creation and the private sector, if you lie on your resume, You're Fired!"
Bevin hadn't attended MIT, just an offsite certification program run by MIT. But, MIT was listed on the certification paperwork, just like he said. Bevin issued the clarification. And then Trump sent out a congratulatory tweet to Kentucky after the election, stating:
"Why would the people of Kentucky want a rookie Senator - they have Sen. Mitch @McConnellPress who may be next Speaker & bring $'s to KY?"
Also showing Trump's vast knowledge of our governmental system with Mitch maybe being the next "Speaker" of the Senate. That tweet was blamed on "someone unknown" by Trump, who deleted it (but not before several people captured screenshots) and tweeted a corrected one saying he supported McConnell for Senate Majority Leader.
Funny thing is, some of the people who were smart enough to get the screen capture are some of Trump's media critics he calls stupid on Twitter so much.
And one of the many articles covering the story:
Donald Trump could be the real deal or he could be a front for Hillary to destroy the Republican Party or a front for the GOPe to overcome grassroots conservatives.
I see those three options. I don’t rule out voting for Trump under the right circumstances like no RINO running mate and no RINO policies.
But for now I choose Cruz and my financial support of him is locked in and increasing in frequency going into the early caucuses and primaries.
Trump said it would be his sister.
Trump never replies to the information and facts in anything that is said about him. He just demeans those who criticize him, as he did with National Review. It’s not Presidential.
And too many of his followers argue the same way.
seems to me real conservative values would be not taking more from the fed than you give. but that’s just me.
anyway, ted pretty much lost my vote with that comment
i know what trumps is. and now i know what cruz is.
though i had two great choices. back to the lesser of two possibly decent
Orrin Hatch and Trent Lott do not give Donald Trump conservative credibility.
Does it matter?
If true would it sway your opinion?
Shouldn’t that be “I WILL TAKE MY CANADIAN CONSERVATIVE...”?
RIchard NixOn could very well be the model for a President Trump.
I’ve read somewhere that in his later years, Mr. Nixon wrote a letter or said something (not sure) to Donald Trump suggesting he run for POTUS.
Nixon was a great con man, with his ‘law and order’ speeches and using the liberal Rockefeller type VP, Spiro Agnew, to trash the liberal media. Nixon distanced himself from the comments to pretend to be above it all.
Nixon and Kissinger cut deals with Communists in the USSR and China, the fake Vietnam Peace Treaty etc. etc.
Nixon also created EPA and OSHA with his signature on bills approved by Congress and so much more.
thanks for the info. i was born in ‘68 so didn’t know those things about him.
kind of shocking.
What’s different this election cycle is we have a group that is on an emotional frenzy in support of a candidate, not unlike the support Obama received.
Their fever pitch is, I think, due to having to defend his positions, deflect his political history, and justify their support with only campaign platitudes like “Make America Great Again!” and “He loves America!”. They have only the slogans and the promises from the campaign trail. His actions show a totally different picture.
More than one has admitted, when confronted with his liberal history in such a way that they can no longer deny it, that their support is solely based on his promise to “built the wall”. They literally say “nothing else matters”
Any discussion of his interview comments, whether they be from 15 years ago to last year, his political contribution record or politician support begets allergic reactions with name calling, attacks and insults.
Does the truth hurt?
Trent Trumping Lott.
Unbelievable.
I’ve already uncovered on McConnell/Trump lie by the media. Why should I not expect another?
That doesn’t mean it’s the Freepers fault, though.
Would it change my mind? It’s another bit of info on this McConnell/Trump charge.
As I recall, though, there were plenty of folks around here wanting McConnell to defeat Grimes in the general, and not a few who wanted him to defeat Bevins, who they said couldn’t defeat Kentucky Grimes from the Grimes political family. We’ll not know that now, since Bevin cut a deal for the governorship and Grimes for some other office...treasurer maybe???
