In 2013 and 2014, Donald Trump Funded John Boehner and Mitch McConnell Against the Tea Party
The Resurgent ^ | January 22, 2016 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/22/2016 9:09:51 PM PST by TBP

In 2013, the tea party rallied to Matt Bevin against Donald Trump. RedState and tea party groups around the country swung into action in an ultimately unsuccessful bid to get Matt Bevin through the primary against Mitch McConnell. We were completely out-funded by establishment interests and Washington lobbyists.

It turns out, one of those establishment interests was Donald J. Trump.

In 2013, Donald Trump gave $220,000.00 to organizations, many of them dedicated to stamping out the Tea Party. From Karl Rove’s American Crossroads to Mitch McConnell’s Super PAC, Trump spread out money. Rove got $50,000.00 and McConnell got $60,000.00. Trump also wrote a check to McConnell’s campaign directly for $5,200.00.

What’s more, Trump also gave $100,000.00 to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican Establishment PAC that was created to crush conservatives at the behest of John Boehner.

Running as an anti-establishment Republican now and courting Sarah Palin is a distraction from two stark facts.

In 2010, with the rise of the Tea Party, Trump supported Democrats against conservatives. In 2014, Donald Trump supported the Republican Establishment as it sought to crush the tea party and conservatives.

It is seriously disingenuous to think Trump is somehow now against the very candidates and organizations he funded just two years ago — candidates and politicians he is already again starting to say nice things about.

Oh C’mon, TBP. You and I both know that that is not reality. He’s a businessman.

You and I are politicians by your definition.

Hey PA -- how about addressing the actual substance that TBP presents, instead of hurling accusations of "TDS!!!" and posting pics of sock puppets?

How about we talk again when the election is over?

You can’t make the government efficient it’s too large.. Trump likes that. His tax plan is one of the worse ones... He leaves the IRS in place...

*sigh*

If Trump wins, all his supporters will be doing after a few months, is the same plunging their heads in the sand as they are doing now, except that they will deny having voted "for" any part of the leftism that Trump promises.

When the election is over, if Trump is nominated and LOSES the general because a growing balance conservatives are SICK of being asked to vote for what they hate and Palin got them to vote for a wrong guy (McCain) ONCE, the second time she can pound sand --

-- or when the election is over and Trump is in the White House and you start to see the embarrassing ignorant "colorful" self-claimed "genius" negotiating how Republicans are going to aid leftist concepts --

-- how about we talk about how Trump voters got what they voted for, then? AT which time, Trump voters will patiently explain that they didn't vote for that -- they voted against Sanders/Hillary or whoever the Dem nightmare is.

I really hope and pray that good conservatives wake the hell up as to what they're ready to ENDORSE before making the colossal mistake of nominating/electing Trump.

Hannity ask Trump last night how he would cut the size of government he just said I don’t have to I’ll make it work better.. Mr Trump our government is too big to work efficiently even with you at the Helm.. Need to cut government by 30 to 50 percent... Trump is a big government guy...

One question I have for Trump and/or for his supporters is....if Trump is really so effective as to be able to actually do all the things he says he's going to do as president....(build a wall, make Mexico pay for it, make big government 'work better', etc....)... then why has he already filed four times for bankruptcy? Doesn't bankruptcy indicate failure of some sort? (confused)

Also, if Trump is going to change things so much from what the Obama administration has brought us, then why did he not only donate to, but vote for, the very same Democrats that put us in the fix we're in? Sorry...but...it makes no logical sense for him to be against everything he previously supported "now" that he's running for president. It defies logic, or at least my logic. In my logic book, Trump previously represented everything we on the right have fought against and still are fighting against.

Considering how fooled America has been re: Obama, and how betrayed we conservatives have been, twice now, by our supposedly own side....how the hell can we trust someone like Trump to actually mean what he says and be what he now pretends to be?

Not speaking for anyone else here, but I'm feeling twice bitten, thrice shy re: trusting chameleon politicians. I trust Cruz as a solid conservative. He's the ONLY conservative running. If the left manages to destroy him, then we on the right have lost everything, IMO.

He didn’t fund them. He tried to buy them. He said so in the debate!

"And he has advocated single payer."

As mentioned elsewhere, with the exception of Harvard Law School-indoctrinated Cruz, Trump is a constitutionally low-information candidate like all the other candidates are imo. So Trumps supporters need to get him up to speed on the federal governments constitutionally limited powers, the power to regulate, tax and spend for INTRAstate healthcare purposes not among those powers. This is evidenced by the excerpts from Supreme Court case opinions below.

Regarding the Obamacare insurance mandate for example, note the fourth entry in the list below from Paul v. Virginia. In that case state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified that regulating insurance is not within the scope of Congresss Commerce Clause powers (1.8.3), regardless if the parties negotiating the insurance policy are domiciled in different states.

This is the progressive conceit — that the problem isn’t the government, its size, scope, or cost, but the people running it, and if the right people are just put in charge, then it will work well.

Yes indeed. Isn't that the exact same thing the leftists bleat about 'failed' communism?

Cruz, OTOH, has stood up, sometimes alone, to the corrupt, deal-making, get-along, go-along RINO Establishment. This is why the Establishment prefers Trump to Cruz.

That's why it makes no logical sense for Palin to come out in support of Trump instead of Cruz. Palin was demonized and her career destroyed for the very same reason...that she stood up to corruption in Alaska from both sides. And now she endorses Trump? The world has gone crazy.

Again. I’m ignoring your lectures and questions out of respect for you. Let’s leave it at that until after the election.

Yet he told Sean Hannity, as if to excuse it, "Well, I didn't get anything for it." Excuse me, Donald, but you're supposed to be a brilliant businessman. You mean to tell me you bought politicians and didn't even get what you paid for?!?

Note that second part — that “Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.”

Yet, John Roberts think that mandating the purchase of health insurance is constitutionally permitted under the taxing power.

You and I are expressing opinions. We are not throwing money around to buy and influence the political system. Trump is.

We’re trying to influence through this web site.

But being an active citizen is not being part of the politician class.

Gaming the system,. trying to buy access and influence, cozying up to politicians, hosting parties and fundraisers, making massive donations, etc., makes you part of the political class. That’s Trump.

Your analysis of Vietnam in terms of a single choke point in Haiphong Harbor is very interesting. I thank you for that, and will do some of my own research before responding further.

On your distrust of leverage, I still disagree. Playing the balance of power game is the only practical way for Americans to protect our interests worldwide—if for no other reason than we have insufficient population to make a frontal assault on every evil in the world.

Unfortunately, the balance of power in the Mideast was lost when we took out Saddam. The destabilization and Islamic civil war which resulted is the direct cause of the refugees . . . along with, of course, Obama coddling Iran, carrying out the stupid Arab Spring policies, and globalists betraying Europe.

Leverage is not magic; it is basic engineering. It is a metaphor in business deals for knowing what power you have and using it wisely.

The issue for me is not conservative credibility. It is nationalist/anti-GOPe credibility.

The 22 pundits of National Review give that credibility to TRUMP—In SPADES!

I heartily recommend the new movie The Big Short

It's why I Tea Partied.

The original Tea Party destroyed commerce at our own expense to make a profound point. The 21st Tea Party never figured out how to do that.
