Jeanne Cleveland, a retired teacher, pursed her lips sourly at the mention of his name and tried to summarize her distaste in diplomatic terms.
"I think he's arrogant," she said. "I think he's rude. I think----"
She paused, reaching for the right words. "Let's just say, I don't like the way he represents us as a country."
To avoid any confusion, Mrs. Cleveland put it plainly: "I don't like Trump."
In this, the 70-year-old from Hollis, N.H., has ample, baffled and agonized company in New Hampshire as the presidential primary enters its final, frenzied weeks, with Donald J. Trump remaining atop poll after poll of the state's Republican electorate.
Or is he? So deep is the dislike for him in some quarters that people like Mrs. Cleveland's husband, Doug, question the accuracy of polls that so consistently identify Mr. Trump as leading the field with around 32 percent. "I've never met a single one of them," Mr. Cleveland said about those said to be backing Mr. Trump. "Where are all these Trump supporters? Everyone we know is supporting somebody else."
These are the lamentations of the 68 Percent -- the significant majority of Republican voters here who are immune to Mr. Trump's charms and entreaties, according to a battery of voter interviews on Thursday at campaign events for his rivals.
For months, great quantities of ink, political-science brain power and polling resources have been expended trying to dissect, if not exactly diagnose, the Trump phenomenon -- precisely who supports him and why. Far less energy has been devoted to sounding out a much larger segment of the electorate: those who reject him.

If all we get is the wall, it’ll be better.
concern troll newspaper. How quant.
Ted Cruz 2016
So where are his double digit leads coming from.
sort of Hopey and Changey?
NH RINOs don’t like Trump?
Who cares.
The New York Times will never run an article showing how many NH Democrats loathe Hillary.
A typical MSM hit piece and there’ll be more of them before November.
I’m going to stick my neck out here and postulate that this article is not supported by any scientific polling. LOL!
Bottom line - this is bullcrap.
It makes sense only if NH anti-Trumpers had someone to vote for. They don’t.
The establishment candidates - that 68% - will split up the vote between them and it’ll be a wash.
Trump will win the state. You heard it here first.
Problem is, there are still some true believers that think JEB!, Carson, Kasich, Christy, Paul and Fiorina have a shot.
The reality is either Cruz or Trump will be the Republican Nominee. I will Vote for either one come General Election time without the necessity of holding my nose.
Refusing to do so will guarantee either Bernie or Clinton will become POTUS which will affirm my belief that the Republic is truly lost.
To tell the truth, I would prefer Bernie over Clinton simply because the EPIC FAIL will be brighter than a thousand Supernovas.
RE: A beacon of light finally......
Ted Cruz 2016

As a Ted Cruz supporter myself, I would caution against over-optimism. The article does not imply that the 68% who don’t support Trump will vote for Cruz, who is WAY BEHIND Trump in the NH polls.
Talk about an important part of the population at large - New Hampshire, with 2,000 registered voters? hahah. Who cares about the northeast?
Hey, they should love the heck out of liberal Trump!
NH voted twice for the arrogant and insufferable Obama.
I don’t get it.
“A hardcore leftist state does not favor Donald Trump! “
It is confusing.
You would think they would like Trump’s support of amnesty, big government cronyism, and bank bail outs.
Heck, he’s even given into special interests like Big Corn!
The millions he’s given to Obama, Clinton, Rahm Emmanuel should buy his support.
Seriously, liberals should love Trump. He is one, after all.
“These are the lamentations of the 68 Percent — the significant majority of Republican voters here who are immune to Mr. Trump’s charms and entreaties, according to a battery of voter interviews on Thursday at campaign events for his rivals.”
Back up a minute. This makes no sense.
First Trump has been winning in the polls by a lot.
But that aside - 68% of Republican voters at his rivals’ campaign events? Of course they’re not for Trump if they are at another’s event.
But that means 32% of those at the rivals’ events like Trump. Pretty neat!
Yup. It makes no sense whatever.
Good to know the MSM and GOP establishment want to boost lil Jeb’s flagging fortunes.
I could see this hit piece coming a mile away.
NYT and NR have opened the big guns in a coordinated assault on Trump.
THe GOP establishment is polling in single digits.
If one of them really pulls off an upset in NH, my beebers will be stunned.
Good luck with it.
The truth thats fit to........be placed at the bottom of a bird cage
I understand, but it is still a beacon of light for me.
