Meh. The idea that there could ever be a “best movie” or “best actor” or “best song” for that matter is just plain ignorant. These are entirely subjective opinions. Myself, I thought that “Team America” was the best movie the year it came out. A lot of people would disagree. So what? This entire slanging match about the Oscars is meaningless.
A lot of actors put a lot of stock in the Oscars. However if you’ve ever met actors you’d know that far too many are, well to use an overused word, stupid. Far too many are illiterate and couldn’t even comprehend a newspaper or a People magazine. In the world of Hollywood someone like Alec Baldwin is an intellectual. Really, he is. I think he read a book or two once.
Sorry for double post.
Replace all of the white horses in westerns with black ones.
“Modern Jews believe L.A./Hollywood is the new Jerusalem.”
Having been to Jerusalem rather recently, I can safely say that most Jewish people know Jerusalem is Jerusalem.
Has Chris Rock stepped down as MC because of the snubs?
This is an interesting/inflammatory story. Here is why. Who does the media, and the black community want to respond to this issue? Everyone I have talked to about it, say that blacks are really not interested in what the white, or for that matter, any non-black community has to say on the subject. Which is sad, because, answers often come from such places, at the very least, insights. So with that in mindâ¦we had a coffee confab this afternoon to toss the idea around, and see what each other had to say. I will state outright that this was a group of white, over 50, republicans and democrats, with an Independent tossed in, with one 60âs hippie, that has never seemed to leave the peace movement of Haight-Ashbury, and the Grateful Dead eraâ¦but a smart, and nice guy most of the time.
Here is what we came up with, now it might not be PC, but itâs as honest, as this group gets. Most agree that films like âStraight outta Comptonâ, âSelmaâ, and many other highly touted Black movies, are not something we would go to, the subject matter is not interesting to us, we are not into Rap, or Hip Hop, and the advertised stars, or directors, are not ones we are familiar with. In these genre itâs in your face, black power, and screw you if you donât accept it. In fact, we see black youth targeting whites, and seriously hurting or killing people who were not bothering them in any way. You cannot provoke a potential audience and expect them to support your efforts. Just our take on what we see out there.
Next, we looked at the black actors that we did know something about. Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Laurence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr., Forest Whitaker, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Halle Berry and Queen Latifah , each of us had seen and liked movies from all these Actors. Shawshank Redemption is my all time favorite, and I bought the DVD. It not that we donât like black actors, it that we want to feel included in the movie, rather than be an outsider, looking in.
Finally, we all object to what WE perceive as reverse-racism of BET(Black Entertainment Television), none of us like Michael Moore, We liked the Butler, but find out that itâs not good enough for the black community, you see, we canât win. There is no acceptable answer to the black community for what they see as wrongs committed against them, except what they perceive as acceptable. Racism as a word and a philosophy has no punch anymore to the people I know, we see angry black people attacking people who did nothing to them, and are just working class people. We no longer choose to be victimized by their philosophy, rhetoric, or distortions. Their actions dictate how we react to them, and lately, their actions have not been good. Martin Luther King, Jr. said I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Since we have just celebrated MLK day, I wonder what he would have said about all of this. Somewhere along the line, things have gone off the railsâ¦.
That happened already.
Diversity, coming to an NBA basketball court near you...
I’m the kind of guy that wants a movie to keep me on the edge of my seat. If it does that the acting was good. If it doesn’t it wasn’t. In my uneducated opinion, of course. I don’t care about the nuances of who has the most realistic laugh or cry or reaction. If they keep me intrigued moment by moment, then they’re well done, and I couldn’t care less about the nuances.
That standard means that the movies drive the awards, and the black actors/actresses I follow manage to keep me involved the same as anyone else.
But the Hollywood standard is always something ‘meaningful’. Forget that. I’ll take a Patton over a Gandhi once a day and twice on Sundays.
Will these people ever get over themselves? .. Dont answer that. I know they wont.
Interestingly Chris Rocks brother went on a Rant tonight on TMZ and confirmed virtually everything that was said...Hmmmm
I think after "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp" won Best Song, they got spoiled.
Maybe they want their own Academy Awards..................
"Segregation Today.....Segregation Tomorrow....Segregation Forever!"
What about Hispanic, Latino, Asian and Native American Actors and actresses? Shouldn’t they also have awards?...................That’s where we’re headed...........................Then you’re gonna have LGBT, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian and space alien academy awards as well...................
