So, you gotta wonder, why does Trump pander to the likes of the Ethanol Lobby when he is so rich he “answers to no one”? And the “bought and paid for” Cruz declined the opportunity to pander as well.

Let’s hope the crony capitalism urge doesn’t win this one.

Agreed. The sooner we shun cronyism, the sooner we have a chance at regaining liberty.

Cruzers simply cannot make a coherent argument.

Cruzers simply cannot make a coherent argument.

Lovely statement, but what are you referring to? What would you consider "coherent"?

Ted needed money, he went to a bank, where they loan money out.

Trump needed money, he went to his Daddy. Not everyone can go borrow a million from Daddy, so they borrow from banks.

What's your point?

People borrow money. Big deal.

Daddy wasn’t financing a run for political office. Fish, barrel, dead.

Because people are greedy and politicians are savvy enough to bribe the people with their own money.

Representative democracy has given way to Bribeocracy (which will ultimately lead to socialism), and Market capitalism has given way to Crony capitalism (which will ultimately lead to the US economy being more like China’s).

I think that is an example of Hegelian dialectics, market capitalism and constitutional limited government was thesis, communism/socialism and authoritarianism was antithesis, and socialism and a hybrid nanny-police state will be the synthesis.

We only thought we won the Cold War.

Ted's loan was backed by his own collateral. How he used the money is between him and his banker.

Since Daddy's loan started DTs empire, ultimately it has funded what we see today.

Hey, let’s not mix apples and oranges here. Trump has borrowed from big banks; really, really big GREAT banks too, but it’s “different” when Trump borrows money - even if it’s from George Soros. We geniuses know that George Soros and people like him don’t expect ANYTHING in return for their money... /s/

Sorry, I tried, but I just can’t seem to make a coherent argument.

Silly Smokin Joe,

Trump borrowed Daddy's money to donate to Hillary and Reverend Al, you know, to buy influence...

I’d like to see this jerk Branstad locked in a room with nothing to drink but ethanol.

Longest serving Governor in American history.

Cruz borrowed from his own margin account as opposed to Trump who borrowed OPM then declared bankruptcy 4 times and left others holding the bag.....

This is a non-issue. Candidates use non-issues. Doesn’t disqualify anyone to talk about non-issues. Trump has brought more REAL ISSUES to the fore than anyone by a factor of five.

The ethanol issue is a peripheral issue. The fuel industry itself says they’ll continue using ethanol no matter, because it’s the best, cheapest way to add octane to gasoline.

So, it’s going to keep happening.

I understand it’s a tax benefit and not a payment. Is anyone clamoring for a reduction in tax benefits to other industries? Oil, gas, steel, auto, etc.?

My understanding is that farmers actually receive nothing, but that the tax benefit goes to the refiners of ethanol. The benefit for farmers is a market for their corn and increased demand that drives up the price. Since Iowa is a major corn producer, the price of corn is a huge issue with a huge percentage of jobs tied to agriculture in one way or another.

Cruz proposed a 5 year phase out, I suppose intending to lessen the impact on farmers. He would have been better to go with 10. The investment in huge farm machinery simply can’t be recouped in 5 years.

Well if they would use it anyway, there’s no harm to the farmers, no need for a mandate it and we can get government out of the equation.
