With 11 days to go before the 2016 Iowa Caucuses, real estate mogul Donald Trump and Texas Senator Ted Cruz are deadlocked at the top of the latest Loras College Poll. The two candidates have distanced themselves from the rest of the field, with Florida Senator Marco Rubio the only other candidate receiving double-digit support among likely Republican caucus voters. The statewide live-caller poll was conducted Jan. 13-18. Trump and Cruz were also at the top of the December Loras Poll.
This is so close!!
Misuse of the word “deadlocked” in the article. I hate that!
So Trump’s kissy face with the ethanol lobby and incessant birther drum beating has netted a -5 for Cruz and +3 for him. Being this is Iowa, I would have expected the +3 from the corn issue alone.
I am, surprisingly, wishing that we had a system similar to how Democrats vote. In their caucuses if your candidate doesn’t receive 15% of the vote in your precinct, you are asked to pick a candidate who does meet the 15% threshold.
We wouldn’t have all these 1% candidates soaking up votes.
Buying them off with the promise of ethanol subsidies may be paying off.
That's tinkering with the will of the voter. Yeah... I know caucuses are not voters, but you get the idea.
Regardless of what I think of those 1-percenters, their supporters have every right to voice their opinion and to have it registered. It's a signal to the electorate that the party bosses know what the voters want, even if the voters don't.
Even a "protest vote" has a message.
The D's have that rule to prevent a serious challenge to their annointed one. If Martin O'Malley's caucus-goers wanted to vote for Hillary, they'd have done it.
Because of delegate allocation rounding, the Iowa minimum is at least 4-5% to qualify for a convention delegate vote.
Iowa GOP caucus rules are quite a bit different this cycle.
The fact that Trump did not bash any pollster the other day when he made his comment about IA told me he had advance word he was winning there.
He said "I think I'm going to win Iowa." Nothing about the "dishonest" polls or the "stupid" Iowa voters, which preceded a bad poll. So I knew that whatever he had seen---and THIS ISN'T LIKELY THE LAST GOOD POLL FOR HIM---told him he was now ahead.
;-)
Yes, good news for Trump. From the last poll Trump is up 3 and Cruz is down 7 in the same poll from December.
I suspect the increase for Trump there is driven more by his pandering to the Ethanol Lobby than by his birther rants. And Cruz’s lower number I bet is for supporting ending of the subsidies.
No other states are going to care about corn subsidies.
The Poll that has Cruz up bt 2 that came out today is no longer on front page, and this one that has Trump up only by 1 is no longer on the front page, both of these polls came out only today...PLUS The CNN Poll, John King cautioned people on the method that was used...PLUS the poll was taken in 2 parts
They asked likely voters that voted 4 years ago and Cruz is up by 2
Trump has the big lead when they ask likely voters including new voters, thats how they explained it on the tv
At any rate 2 polls here that are pretty good for Cruz, they were only released today, and are bumped off front page for the afternoon polls, sounds fishy to me
