A 95-year-old man who worked as a paramedic at Auschwitz will stand trial next month as an accessory to the murder of 3,681 death camp inmates, a German court announced Monday.
Hubert Zafke, accused by prosecutors of serving as an SS sergeant in Hitlerâs killing machine, is set to face justice Feb. 29 in Neubrandenburg state court.
Zafke was stationed at Auschwitz in 1943 and 1944 and would have been on duty at the notorious death camp when diarist Anne Frank and her family were sent there on Sept. 5, 1944, authorities have said.

But what caught my attention was his photograph. Did this guy have a career in movies?
Remember Werner 'The Ferret' from The Great Escape?
Hubert Zafke:
Robert Graf (Werner);
Absolutely ridiculous.
Do they have any real specific evidence on this individual?
Or will it be another show trial and guilt by association deal?
A diversion away from the rapefugees.
No sympathy for Nazis. I wish them all a horrible death.
But, from what I have read, this guy was just an orderly with no connections to the killings. It looks like they are running out of real Nazis to prosecute.
Of course they are. WWII ended 70 years ago. An 18yo conscript from the Third Reich (or anywhere else) is now at least 88 years old. This dude is 95. Pretty soon the professional NAZI hunters will have find something else to do.
The time for these trials was 60 or 50 or 40 or even 30 years ago. We can very well address the same sort of evils including anti-Semitic genocide in trials of ex-soviet officials still capable of understanding the process or of today's Islamofascist looney tunes, all (both groups) on charges of "crimes against humanity" as wisely defined at the Nuremberg trials of Nazis after WW II.
From the Nazi Holocaust perpetrators, the big shots are now all dead, the medium shots are all dead. All that is left are a handful of likely senile cockroaches who are hardly worthy of much attention. Meanwhile, year by year, the ex soviets and the Islamofascists grow a little older in knowing freedom.
Also remember the case of Ivan Demanjuk (sp.?), a Ukrainia immigrant accused of being Ivan the Terrible at Treblinka (?). The US government stripped him of his citizenship on the apparent assumption of his guilt and deported him to Israel where he was tried and found guilty. The Israelis take these matters VERY seriously and have a process of mandatory appeals to their Supreme Courtwhich can and must review all the evidence. That court determined on evidence from soviet war archives including actual photographs of the actual Ivan the Terrible, that Demanjuk was not the man he was accused of being. Embarrassed American authorities then fell back on a theory that he must have been a different war criminal Ivan the Very Bad. Mistaken identity, don'tcha know? No harm. No foul! Somehow we are taught to expect more of our system of justice than mob hysteria based on false claims.
Their REAL punishment will likely come after they are dead but are again fully cognizant of divine justice.
Anyone who volunteered for the SS is an accessory in my book.
The usual contingent of Nazi sympathizers shows up.
Give me your address and I’ll send you a box of Kleenex.
Your story of the poor, persecuted Nazis has broken my heart.
My take too. Meanwhile here on earth we are close to reaching the end of Nazi trials since they will soon all be dead except for those who were children. Someone born at the end of war would now be 70.
Not understanding the Nazi sympathizers here.
The real benefit to society of the trial is to continue to make the world aware of what happened during the Holocaust. The average Freeper is well aware of Holocaust history but as time goes by and our educational system continues to deteriorate it becomes more and more important to ensure that future generations are aware of what even supposedly “advanced societies” are capable of.
I've almost finished it and cannot recommend it highly enough.
We should of done more to support the professional Nazi hunters immediately after the war with money. Some were allowed to ‘hide’ in the U.S. Karma is a bitch but it needs to be front and center-show trials. Remember the killer of Leon Klinghofer?
Not a Nazi sympathizer.
But when an individual is being charged with a crime such as murder, that overwhelming evidence must produced. That is the standard here in the U.S.
Even at the Nuremberg Trials, where the highest level Nazi leaders were on the docket, not all were found guilty. Some were acquitted. Not all were found guilty of murder and many received prison sentences. In the case of each individual, a significant amount of evidence was presented.
May I please be allowed on crocodile tear for the nazis?
sniff......
fwiw, my opinion is that this is to remind the German people of their previous genocidal activities. To me, it’s obviously an effort to equate the ss to pegida and others who are clamoring to fight back against the Muslim scum being forced on them by their traitorous leaders.
Not about crocodiles tears for Nazis.
It is about due process.
What is the evidence against this man?
Demjanjuk was a different case. He was a Red Army soldier, captured by the Nazis, who had a choice of either serving as a guard, or being killed by the Nazis.
This guy voluntarily joined the SS, knowing full well what their job was.
