Ted Cruz's Howitzer
New Republic ^ | January 20, 2016 | Andy Kroll

Excerpt.... Axiom has also worked for candidates and causes that might make a Ted Cruz supporter balk. Federal election records show the National Republican Congressional Committee, an establishment party organ and bête noire to the far right, paid Roe’s firm nearly $90,000 between 2009 and 2014 for strategy consulting, among other things, according to federal election records. Roe helped mainstream Republican Senator Pat Roberts in Kansas—a RINO in the eyes of many conservatives—defeat a Tea Party challenger and win re-election in 2014. Perhaps most damaging in the eyes of movement conservatives, that same year Roe’s mail firm was behind a $234,000 negative ad blitz in Kansas’ 1st congressional district funded by a super PAC called Now or Never. The target was one of the most conservative members of Congress, Representative Tim Huelskamp of Kansas, who was being challenged in the Republican primary.

This is an interesting article regarding Jeff Roe, Ted Cruz's campaign guru. It is interesting in how Cruz came to know Roe...back during Ted's senatorial campaign it was Roe that put out a hit mailer on Cruz.

Granted the article is in New Republic, but a good read none the less.

The question is, did Roe’s hard hitting nasty ad last year lead to the suicide of a political candidate? Was Roe behind the whole New York Values line of attack by Cruz and what other nastiness will Roe come up with for Trump, Rubio and others in the run for the nomination.

Roe’s email machine had the opposite effect. I quickly grew tired of the campy subject lines and multiple emails each day.

The excerpt is unreadable or not worth my effort to try and read it. Fix the God damn text already.

Yup, we all need to tone down the foul language.

I have found myself guilty of the same thing here... I think it’s the election fervor that somehow makes it seem more acceptable.

From now on I’m making an extra effort to limit posting of such... it makes FR look bad.. Anything that brings to mind DU one should avoid posting here on FR. :-/

“What we’ve yet to see in this campaign is Roe’s other trademark attribute: the brass-knuckled approach to winning that’s made him many enemies. From his earliest days running state and local campaigns, he’s taken a scorched-earth approach to politics. Roe and his tactics have been blamed for damaging opponents’ lives and reputations, and even for contributing to a gubernatorial candidate’s suicide. (Roe doesn’t exactly hide from this reputation: His web site features headlines describing him as “ruthless” and a “leading practitioner of hard-ball politics.””

Sounds like a real class act.

Actually a great read about a man who may end up being the next Atwater/Rove.

Dude is ruthless... Cruz got himself a vicious one.

No. That was not Roe’s doing. There were other entities (mainly, chairman of the MO Republican Party had spread false rumors) plus Schweich’s own instability.
I’m in MO and there was a lot of reporting about this at the time. I thought Schweich might have made a good auditor. He was a penny-pinching by-the-book type, tiny, but very withdrawn and paranoid (taking meds for it). I just don’t think he was up to the crap that comes with a campaign.

Yeah, I found it fascinating to read a little behind the scenes of the sausage making that is campaigning. He does sound a bit of a smash mouth kinda guy.

Politics is more fun than soccer

Trump doesn’t need a howitzer. He comes equipped, and armor-plated.

While it worked before...It probably has a limited effect with Trump who is more bullet proof in that regard. Cruz went along that line to attack again tonight on Hannity. Spent some time with it. Now with Ted having a legal action being taken against him for his mis-reporting with the FEC...that will be used to great extent by Trump. Hey, its bare knuckle politics on all sides. Whoever emerges from the primaries will be battle hardened and tested. Nothing the Dems can throw at the eventual candidate will stick.

We can hope that Ted keeps a lid on that kind of thing. I read that the Schweich suicide in MO (though it wasn’t Roe’s fault) really affected Roe. Also, that Cruz made him apologize and patch things up with Huelscamp(KS) for Roe’s tactics there before Cruz hired him.
Cruz will need this tough s.o.b., though, to deal with the dirty tactics from the other campaigns. They all put on a nice face but they ALL have filthy, dirty tactics (some extremely)- Especially in a presidential race. That’s why they say politics “ain’t beanbag”.
