On Wednesday, Senate Democrats successfully and predictably blocked what many conservatives described as Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) 56% âs âShow Vote'âon refugee admissions.
It has been called a show vote because the Ryan plan, even if the President signed it, would still allow the President to bring in an unlimited number of refugees from an unlimited number of countries.
Democratsâ filibuster on the motion to proceed to Ryanâs show vote comes one month after Speaker Ryan sent President Obama a blank check to fund visa issuances to nearly 300,000 (temporary and permanent) Muslim migrants in the next 12 months alone. Ryanâs decision to fully-fund Obamaâs immigration agenda arguably ceded any leverage he may otherwise have had over Democrats and ensured the large-scale migration into America would continue and grow.
Ryanâs bill, known as the American SAFE Act, was blocked by 55-43.
Ryanâs inability to develop a winning strategy suggests he failed at what he has called the âfirst duty of the government.â Ryan declared after the SAFE Actâs initial passage in the House:

To quote Melissa Click, a former lecturer of Mizzou; “I need some muscle over here!!”
Where was the Republican Senate filibuster of the Omnibus Spending bill? THREE sitting Senators running for president, and they all voted to hurry and get away for Christmas break.
Cruz of all should’ve filibustered it - the optics would’ve been great for him if the specifics of the bill had been pointed out - but campaigning was more important. Granted, he voted nay, but the whip count was done already and that was political cover.
As for Ryan, it was the Freedom Caucus who decided to foist him on us. Aren’t they the group that Cruz formed in the house to bridge his senate efforts with the house during Boehner’s reign? Why didn’t Cruz say anything about Ryan’s ascension?
Paul is a Ryno....
Excellent points ... Cruz could have and should have , but didn’t ... why ?
Thank you - I’ve tried to ask his supporters and never get a response.
Ryan has a strategy? I can’t imagine what it would be except for bailing out Democrats who get into trouble.
Cool, that can add to the 800,000 Bush let in, and the 700,000 that Obama has already let in. Maybe we can hit 2 Million!
Isn’t the uni-party exciting?
Go Trump.
Unfortunately we won’t ..
I just ran an archive search. Back during the TPA vote, Cruz and Ryan co-authored their position affirming TPA together.
They were a team then, and that explains a lot.

Our government is endangering us. No longer protecting us. That is what corrupt and crony governments do.
