Cruz and Clinton each lose another news cycle as the Iowa caucuses approach
The Washington Post ^ | 01/20/2016 | James Hohmann

Endorsing Donald Trump last night in Iowa, Sarah Palin called him "the only one that has been willing [and] who’s got the guts" to take on the GOP establishment. "He is from the private sector, not a politician: Can I get a hallelujah?" the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee said. The crowd answered back: "Hallelujah!" Today she and Trump will campaign together in Iowa and Oklahoma.

A key Cruz ally acknowledged last night that Palin helps Trump: "He‘s a thrice-married, non-churchgoing billionaire, and she gives him credibility with conservative women," said Kellyanne Conway, who manages a Cruz super PAC. "It‘s a net positive." She‘s quoted in a Robert Costa piece on the escalating Trump-Cruz feud "for the backing of the GOP’s anti-establishment establishment."

They will both lose everything.

Momentum is not on their side and the vote is in less than 2 weeks.

“Momentum is not on their side”??? You are obviously in denial. How about the Governor of Iowa declaring “Anybody but Cruz?

Hehehe, I think you two are in agreement. There is momentum alright, in reverse!

He’s smart and has good advisors. I recognize that good campaigns don’t always lead to good governing (Obama!) but it’s not a bad sign either.

He has good advisors because he is smart enough to know he can’t do it all himself and smart enough to know who are the good advisors worth picking.

I don’t disagree, but remember, 2 weeks is an eternity in political primaries. Think back two weeks...Cruz was dominating the Iowa talk and the “favorite” of the talking heads going in to the debate. I would argue he did well enough in the debate to carry Iowa and possibly change the momentum going forward, however went one step too far and the combination of Trump’s response to the NY values comment, the subsequent barrage/attacks from Trump over that weekend, then Cruz’s Goldman Sachs/Citibank loan issues, the Liberty University speech, the John Wayne family and Sara Palin endorsement, and Governor Barnstad “non-endorsement, endorsement” caused the cascade that is still unfolding. Remains to be seen what the final outcome in Iowa will be, but in other early states Trump seems to be moving away from the other candidates.

I will add, Trump is in a league by himself when it comes to dealing with this political process. He and his team are playing chess while others are playing checkers.

I prefer to think of it as all political chess, a crazy 3D, multi-player game of chess with extremely complex rules.

One of the rules is, there is only one Queen and no one has her starting out.

Well, Trump just got the Queen!

And she is the only Queen on the board.

The next rule is, if you win Iowa, NH, SC and Florida, it is early checkmate!

According to a just-released poll from Florida Atlantic University broadcast on MSNBC, in a 12 person Republican primary, Donald Trump is blowing the pack away in Florida with an incredible +32 point lead. The billionaire businessman currently enjoys 48% support in the Sunshine State, a +12 point jump from November.

I think that post is referring to the title of the piece. “Cruz and Clinton lose...”
