"...Corn has long been king in Iowa, the nation's top corn-producing state, implanting in Iowa voters a sentiment that every candidate must cheer Washington's backing for ethanol. Since 2011, though, that universal backing has been eroding.
Congress decided at the end of 2011 not to renew a tax credit that cost the government $6 billion a year. Critics of the governmentâs ethanol policy then set their targets on the ethanol mandate, which requires refineries to blend an increasing amount of biofuels into the U.S. gasoline supply each year.
At the ethanol summit Tuesday, Mr. Trump also read a prepared statement opposing Congress "changing any part of the RFS," or Renewable Fuel Standard, the mandate's formal name.
This year's presidential election is testing the corn industry's political power more than ever, with Republican candidates seeking to find a middle ground between repealing the mandate outright, a move supported by the party's conservative base, and phasing it out.
Mr. Cruz, who is leading in the latest polling ahead of Iowa's caucus, has sought a balance between backing a powerful political constituency and eschewing "big-government" policies the conservative base abhors.
Mr. Cruz has faced criticism from the ethanol industry primarily through America's Renewable Future, the group Mr. Branstad works for. Mr. Branstad's father, the governor, on Tuesday urged Iowa Republicans not to vote for Mr. Cruz because of his lack of support for the ethanol mandate...."

“Do you eat field corn? Farmers raise corn and it is theirs to do with as they wish.”
As a matter of fact I have grown corn and eaten it from my garden. I have also stopped by those little roadside stands that sell corn and have bought it and eaten it.
You do realize that the corn used in gasoline is heavily subsidized by the Feds? Yes, farmers can do with their corn whatever they wish. They can keep it in a grain elevator, they can sell it for food, or they can feed it to their hogs if they have any.
Lead is everywhere? Where exactly? In gasoline? Paint? What decade are you living in currently? The 1970s? You are saying that ethanol is substitute for lead in gasoline?
Take a look at the additives that have or are currently being used in gasoline.

Bingo!!!!
Winner, winner chicken dinner!
The lines are on top of each other and mostly reflect the cost for the mega farms in near perfect production areas. Do you have a different source, like one that comes from agriculture? Tell me about your expertise in modern agriculture. Where do you farm?
“Thing is, I donât think this is a lie - âcause Trump is a big government liberal.”...now what would have made you think a thing like that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRQgAEqLUmQ&list=PLJcbhHQDR9da0H3-Qs-7WEEj6tam9vlh3&index=2
Lol! What a desperate and pathetic defense! That's all you got? I don't need some trumpy shill to tell me about the evilness of Obama and team. Maybe you should share that info with your false god The Donald, who says about Obama,"I think he's doing a really good job...he's a champion and he's just done something that's amazing!"
Unbelievable. Trump is worse than a Marxist Muslim that stole the
Last election.
He’s the kind of guy who thinks everything is for sale all the time.
That wasn’t really my argument. my argument is that ag commodity prices need to be supported and kept stable to prevent deflation from wreaking havoc in the ag industry and our economy in general. and ethanol regulations serve that purpose. If we were to suddenly mandate that there be no more ethanol production, ag prices would collapse, farms would go bankrupt, and Americans would be reunited with that old forgotten enemy called hunger.
Corn prices are barely above cost of production. What do you know about modern agriculture?
**************************
First, I don’t resent farmers making a good living. I do know about prices at the grocery stores and how much they have changed going up. Ethanol is doing much to drive that.
keeping it simple.
You were not eating field corn. Lol, you ate sweet corn.
Jack, stick with rocket fuel buddy.
ETOH was an octane booster that replaced Pb in gasoline. Yes, There is no place on the planet that Pb has not contaminated. This came from burning leaded fuel. Pb does not break down, it is an element Jack.
The ETOH subsidy ended in 2011.
We have GOT to go to a single-day national primary.
We cannot allow a few small states to continue extorting goodies from the rest of us simply because of the calendar.
Why did he âlose youâ on something like this, but not this?
*********************
I had been giving Trump the benefit of the doubt but the last few weeks activities on his part has been a real turnoff. What next, will he hire James Carville to accelerate personal character attacks? Losing my SC vote at this rate.
Pb is an element? Well slap my thigh and call me Shirley!
“That’s the other problem with ethanol. Alcohol absorbs water “
That’s true, and so long as you use the vehicle on a regular basis, the alcohol in the fuel keeps the water accumulation out of your fuel system. The stuff you buy to remove water from your fuel system is basically alcohol. The problem, as you suggest is a result of not keeping your tank full and not operating your vehicle. The other problem is that alcohols are corrosive. Just ask the guys who run sprint cars on Methanol. They have to “clean out” their fuel systems with straight gasoline after the racing is done for the day because the fuel is hard on aluminum. The other thing about alcohols, while they have excellent “octane numbers,” they have way less heat content per gallon than does gasoline, so you get worse milage, the more of it that’s blended into your gasoline. Ethanol is a dream for the farmers and the oil companies. for the consumers, not so much.
Science!
As much as I can get into the cow at the feed lot.
Maintenance is crazy expensive, just glad I’m blessed with the ability to do everything on my own. I had to replace the heads this year which could have easily broke the bank.
I wouldnt get any new truck with all the emission garbage they throw on there now. CAT stopped making OTR engines for good reason.
He's beholden to King Corn!
