When Regent University law professor James Duane first delivered his "Don't Talk to the Police!" lecture back in 2008, he likely had no idea that it would go viral again nearly a decade later.
Duane's lecture, which encourages people to exercise their Fifth Amendment right to remain silent, has been getting renewed attention in the wake of Netflix's "Making a Murderer" documentary, which covers the trial of Steven Avery, who was found guilty in 2007 of killing photographer Teresa Halbach.

That lecture should be seen by every citizen!
Duane was actually my law professor. Funny guy, very smart.
Old, old video. But REALLY good. Professor Duane is a good man.
That’s Dopey’s website!!
Whoa. Really? I knew him when I went there as well. Did he sometimes play his guitar before class?
I show it to my high school students. They can’t keep up with his fast talking though.
Yup. He’d play his guitar behind his head and I would joke that he copied that from Jimmi Hendrix.
This first went viral a few years back, actually.
Never hurts to put it out again, though. It’s really good stuff.
Amazes me on the various crime shows how people never utter “I want a lawyer” first thing.
It sure is. Clicking on The Blaze is something I strenuously avoid. Do a YouTube search for James Duane. His lectures are all there, and well worth the time watching.
And even more amazing are all those suspects on the TV show Cops who give consent to vehicle searches, bag searches, etc.
I never go there...Thanks
Btw, if folks have not see this, they ought to watch this.
It’s only 3 minutes featuring Mr. Cruz himself.
Cruz trustworthy?

Bkmrk.
And when contraband is found, they say, "that's not mine."
This is one of the best videos out there. The police are not always your friends. When they get called to the scene of a crime, even an alleged crime, someone has to get arrested. I know of many examples where innocent people say too much, are too trusting or just plain scared, and have gotten jammed up by over-zealous police and prosecutors. Many of those instances involve concealed carry pistol permit holders who are believed to be guilty just by virtue of the fact that they carry a gun.
Sadly, many good people may need a defense lawyer at some point in their life even though they have done nothing wrong.
Good advice, but do it calmly, and with respect.
It’s hard to be respectful if the police are screaming at you like a drill sergeant and kicking in your door at 3am in the morning.
Or if you live in Chicago where the police can take you to their “Black Site” where they can torture you and even kill you with no consequences.
The Second Amendment was written with this kind of government behavior in mind. And the people who hate the Second Amendment LOVE that kind of government behavior.
Don’t talk to cops, and don’t complain when the cops just say screw it and crime runs rampant in your neighborhood.
And with them knowing they had something illegal in their vehicles they still give consent! The cops are fishing and you are taking the bait hook, line and sinker and running when you could just walk away. They talk themselves into jail.
I have told my kids, never consent to a search no matter what they threaten you with jail, supervisor etc..., always be respectful and tell them your father and his attorney have told us no searches ever, just say no and shut up, the more you banter with the cops the more they pull out of you.
Answer with yes and no if possible. If they do decide to search let them no you do not consent don’t get into a pissing contest with the cops. If they violate your rights let your attorney deal with it.
