Today's Morning Jolt looks at the rumors surrounding Trump's "major announcement and special guest."
If you consider Ted Cruz the conservative ideal or near-ideal in terms of philosophical grounding, legal perspective, and ideological rigor - and the case for that seems pretty self-evident - then watching Tea Party leaders flock to Trump over him is pretty damn disappointing.
April 15, 2009 is largely seen as the birth date of the Tea Party movement. Here's what Trump was saying that day about President Obama:
TRUMP: Well, I think he's sort of a guy that just has a wonderful personality, a good speaker, somebody that people trust. And I also think that the comparison with his predecessor is so different - it's so huge that it really has made a great impact on people.
I think that he's really doing a nice job in terms of representation of this country. And he represents such a large part of the country.
I mean, to think that a black man was going to be elected president - I watched television for years where the great political analysts were saying maybe in 50, maybe in 100 years.
Here's a man that not only got elected, I think he's doing a really good job.
Now, the sad part is that he can't just do a good job. He's got to do a great job. Because if he does a good job, that's not good enough for this country. That's how bad the country has become.
KING: Do you assess him as a champion?
TRUMP: Oh, yes, he's a champion. I mean, he won against all odds. If you would have looked - when he first announced, people were giving him virtually no chance. And he's just done something that's amazing.
KING: More on Donald Trump...
TRUMP: He's totally a champion.
Later in that interview:
KING: You're not going to march with the tea party?
TRUMP: I don't march with the tea party. But I'll tell you what, they have a good point, because when you see the kind of money that this country is - to use a horrible expression, Larry, I know you've never heard this - but that this country is pissing away, I can understand where they're coming from.
Trump went on to defend the TARP bailouts: "If they didn't stuff the banks with money, we'd be in depression number two right now, Larry. I mean, we would be strongly in depression number two. So they did the right thing in putting money into the banks."
Trump, the guy who hosted two fundraisers for Charlie Crist in 2009. He donated to Harry Reid over Sharron Angle in 2010.
Trump, the guy who donated $50,000 to make Rahm Emanuel the mayor of Chicago.
In the founding days of the Tea Party, Donald Trump was exactly what they were fighting agains... and now some of those adherents have embraced him fully.
“The amendment that Cruz put forward was a poison pill to kill the gang of 8 bill.”
That is fiction, spin on the part of Cruz.
My point is that people are dredging up things on Trump from many years ago, and neglect contradictions in Cruz form just a few months back.
I do of course back Trump. Trump also gave money to Cruz’s senate seat bid.
This “true conservative” crap is getting tedious, about like the “true church” thing.
>>I traveled to D.C. years ago to join with other FReepers in the March for Justice - the fall of 1998.
And here we are 18 years later, watching as Donald Trump is being touted as a superior leader over Ted Cruz.<<
And I, waving my large Stars & Stripes, with a few FReepers surrounding me, marched in Dallas, Austin and Crawford against hordes of Leftists. Crawford was us against Cindy Sheehan and her type who were pro-Saddam Hussein. No matter if the Iraq War was wise or not, problem was they hated this country and our military instead of the butcher of Baghdad.
Austin was similar although not involving Cindy Sheehan.
Dallas was us against socialists who hated oil companies and oil, period.
Now I’m seeing that some FReepers are affirming that Trump is a better conservative leader for the GOP and America than is Ted Cruz.
If you show them what DT has said in the past, they attack. Never mind what he has said. Which is utterly mind boggling to this Conservative FReeper. That’s why I say to everyone here, take great care to go back over all of this that has been posted that came from his own mouth before he decided to run for POTUS under our banner.
Instead of immediately attacking, take time to digest his utterances over a long span, then ask the question, is this man a better representative of what we stand for than is Ted Cruz?
How do you get there?
Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009..three months before this interview. Obama had not become a train wreck yet!
Reminds me of the righteous Christian Brits who hated Winston Churchill because he smoked cigars, drank whiskey, and used occasional profanity.
My Daddy used to say, “only a fool never changes his mind”.
Whatever you have decided Trump is, no one can say he is a ‘fool’. ANY one of us would trade places with that ‘fool’!
So, Trump changed his mind on abortion...so did Reagan and George HW BUSH....for Bush it was several times! Any one of us who says we think the same way we did when we were younger is, excuse me...a LIAR or a damn fool.
Winston Churchill said:
“If you’re not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you’re not a conservative at forty you have no brain.”
Now, Churchill wasn’t talking about being 20 or 40, but the difference between being young or mature, with EXPERIENCE under your belt.

When anybody finds any inconsistency between any two writings of mine,
if he has still faith in my sanity, he would do well to choose the later of the two on the same subject.
Trumps world is malleable
just wait a while and history is rewritten
BIG BUMP!!
Inferences are the whiner's worst illness.
It is possible to admire Cruz. I do.
It's the many of his supporters that act like forty-something teenager whiners that we can't stand...
So you got nothing huh? Other than you’re older than me??
Uselessly, as far as I can remember or see.
It's impossible to be a loser and have any influence whatsoever if you talk big but have no balls.
It doesn't bother me.
Ignoring the kiddies of all ages is never a problem.
It's easy to ignore the ignorant poo flingers?
Why indulge their fantasies by acknowledging them?
Trump has never been infected by the DC ebola fatal disease.
Without a political past, public service a la Hillary, there is nothing to refute.
I cannot figure out how a guy who spent the first 60 years of his life talking out of both sides of his mouth is now regarded as the authentic reliable voice for conservatives.
And Ronald Reagan is NOT an apt comparison, RR figured out what was going much more quickly than Trump has, worked tirelessly for conservatives for 20 years before becoming President, amassed a RECORD (something Trump does not have) as a strong conservative as 2-term Governor of California, and THEN got elected President.
Apples and Oranges.
LOL!
Works for me!
They haven't invented "age-smarts" transfusions yet.
Sorry.
I'll get right on it.
Gonna work on one of those catapults we need to put on the southern border...
Thanks for that wise tip.
Freepers were more savvy in 2009 than Donald Trump was in 2009.
The savvy quotient of some 2016 Freepers is tracking more to Trump's of 2009.
Whining? No. I just dislike liars and character assassins.
Cruz praises Obama? Deliberate lie on your part. This crap is getting old.
I knew who Obama was way before DT did.
That’s not the only utterance from his past that’s very bad.
There are MANY.
I haven’t read FR for years. They abandoned old conservatism 100%. The Trump/Cruz threads I find more amusing than anything else.I’m for Trump, and if I get hated for that,(and I have) so be it.
As the great American Homely Philosopher, Carl Sandburg one said:
” Oh, I’m going out to the woods next year
and shoot for a beer
and not for a deer
I am!
I ain’t!
I’m a great......... Sharp-Shootress! “
