It's become a truism this election season that whatever you expect to happen with Donald Trump, you're probably wrong.
So add this to the list of surprises: On Monday, the thrice-married Republican frontrunner, who described himself as pro-choice as recently as 2000, traveled to the heart of conservative evangelism only to be greeted as a conquering hero.
Trump spoke at the Liberty University convocation on Martin Luther King Day. Liberty is the largest Christian university in the world...
So one might have expected that Trump, who declined to name his favorite Bible verse on the campaign trail, would have received a perfunctory welcome from the 11,000-seat auditorium at the school. Instead, university president Jerry Falwell Jr. called Trump a "breath of fresh air" in his introduction, comparing the Republican frontrunner to Ronald Reagan, Martin Luther King Jr., and Falwell's own father.
"In my opinion, Mr. Trump lives a life of loving and helping others ...as Jesus taught in the New Testament," Falwell said.
When Trump took the stage after Falwell's fawning opening, he dedicated his "record" attendance at the convocation to Martin Luther King Jr...
Early on in his speech, Trump tailored his message to the crowd and emphasized the power of Christianity in the country. ...
If you look what's going on throughout the world Christianity, it's under siege," Trump continued. "I'm Protestant, I'm very proud of it, Presbyterian to be exact...
Ted Cruz may have been the big loser of the morning. Trump has made clear at Liberty University and in other speeches that he plans to win Iowa, and to fight for the religious voters who have recently elevated his rival.
"I think we could really surprise a lot of people by winning Iowa," Trump said. "And then we're just going to clean the table."

The place was full, but most of the applause was merely polite, imo, except for the roar from the crowd about protecting the 2A.
Just my observation.
It was an exciting, lots of energy awesome speech!!!!....
GO TRUMP!
But there were only two Corinthians.
I would sure like to know who passed out that flyer.
I hope President Falwell has become aware of this.
(about protecting the 2A.)
HEY!!!! That should be ‘SECOND’ A.
You must not a real gun rights supporter if you don’t know it’s ‘SECOND’ Amendment! Not ‘2’ Amendment!

Guess the new Liberty University has decided it now approves of New York values.
It seems like normal Christians are impressed with Trump.
Unlike the many snake-handlers here.
“ObozoMustGo2012 to Cincinatus’ Wife
Did this evangelical leader also get his briefs twister because Trump said TWO Corinthians instead of Second???”

You’re having quite a day with the number two, aren’t you?
lol
I thought Trump was very good, giving advice to the students about how to succeed, telling them what a great education they're getting, and expressing a high regard for the core values of Liberty U.
lol
Trump was really pleased and really appreciated it when Liberty University President said that Trump reminded him of his own Father...that was a big, big compliment...and Trump was very surprised by it...
The people in the audience were very receptive of what Trump had to say...and Liberty University is a great place to learn in...and it has Christian Values our young people need in today's world...
Very receptive.
Lovely posts....
....Thanks!
the intro was high praise for Trump “you shall know them by their fruits”. IMHO it was as close to an endorsement as you could give without using the word.
No surprise staunch Christians back Trump. They know they are in mortal danger from the Christian-hating Muslims Obama is pouring into our country.
Trump has backed up his words w/ concrete action.
Islam’s plans for a Ground Zero Mosque failed....stopped in its tracks by determined New Yorkers....including Donald Trump.
Back then, Donald Trump offered to put up his own money to stop the mosque/community center planned near Ground Zero.
Trump offered to pay $6 million for the Park51 Cordoba Mosque site (a princely sum for property then-worth about $4.5 million). Trump was publicly lacerated for his efforts by the property/s investors.
Nevertheless, the GZM was effectively stopped in its tracks. Credit New York values for the successful job.
