GLENN FREY EAGLES GUITARIST DEAD AT 67
TMZ ^ | 1/17/2016

Posted on 01/18/2016 2:01:14 PM PST by Borges

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned. Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse. Glenn co-wrote and sang most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band. After the Eagles' 1980 breakup, Glenn launched a successful solo career, recording numerous hits ... most notably "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong to the City." Glenn also got into acting, snagging a recurring role on "Miami Vice." He reunited with the Eagles in '94 for their monster Hell Freezes Over tour and recorded music till the end, releasing what would be his fifth and final solo LP, "After Hours," in 2012. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been fighting intestinal issues for awhile but his condition relapsed before the holidays, forcing the Eagles to pull out of their Kennedy Center Honors appearance in December. At the time, the band said he needed major surgery that would require a lengthy recovery, but it appears he was never able to bounce back. Glenn was 67. RIP.

Seger & his manager Punch Andrews have had to do the same thing with old tapes. Bob has over 700 songs in his music vault & many of them are that uncertain condition.

I’m glad you said what I was thinking when I responded to that poster. We can never know what someone has done in the privacy of their own heart. May the Lord forgive every single one of us that asks for it.

The Eagles documentary from 2012, Frey claims that Browne had the line “standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona” but couldn’t finish it.

Browne lived in the basement below him and Henley.

Better to have a bag hanging off your living body than having your dead body in a box.

Seger, he's one of those people like Dolly Parton.
Known in their own right for their own music, but ALL the music that they've written that others have done.

Yes - it’s a technique used by many remastering engineers to obtain proper playback including accurate azimuth alignment. Obviously, it is a VERY controlled process used only on that type of tape formulation.

The problem was in the 70’s, the industry changed to “new & better” formulations but they could not withstand time and began deteriorating.

As I mentioned, tapes from the 50’s and 60’s - assuming proper storage - playback just fine.

Interesting story my friend told me re: his remastering of the classic album “Aqualung”...

The true, original master tapes (circa 1970) could not be found - only safety copies.

Then very early one morning his phone rang and it was Ian Anderson who proudly proclaimed he found the real original tapes. They were in his garage!

Ian shipped them to LA and, except for one short section of “Aqualung” that had stretched and needed to be spliced with a portion from a safety copy, the tapes were just fine.

I think all of us had the hots for our favorite rockers when we were young and not so wise ... I was nuts about Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart - but when I heard them say “Music is our God,” along with all their other leftist proclamations - that kind of put the chill on my fantasy .... Still have a twinkle in my eye for Pat Benatar - she’s just a fox (Apologies to Neil “Spyder” Giraldo).

Bob’s a great artist. I know some of the band members, so I’m somewhat prejudiced.

That song was an almost an anthem in my HS daze ... But Freebird and Stairway were tied for the crown.

FIVE BUCK!? Geeze, I don’t think I ever paid less than $35 for a concert ticket ... And I never got a front row seat until my first time seeing Jackie Evancho sing in Denver(an incredibly gifted 15 year-old soprano prodigy)

Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo are doing a 35th Anniversary tour ... But I cannot afford to travel now! Nuts! I want to see her perform at least once more before one of us rides off into the sunset.

It sounds good, but it’s elitist trash. “Ah, man, why did the little people have to discover Aspen? It was better when it was us and our rich pals!”

That’s amazing. Do they not have a master disc from which the vinyl LP is pressed? Can they not use that/ Or is the fidelity not as true as what was recorded on RtR tape in studio?

Satin is nice and smooth.

I mean, Glenn Frey? Come now.

“You Belong to the City”.

If anyone doesn’t merit eternal torment for subjecting the world to that song, there is no God.

1). “WTF do you know? You’re judging another man’s heart now? Heh! I guess we’ll all know about the skeleton’s in YOUR closet at the general judgement. Be careful whom you choose to condemn - it may be your own undoing. Remember - Pride goeth before the fall.”

2). “Yeah, another holy roller who thinks he is without sin.”

Oh the irony.
