Evangelical leader blasts Falwell for hosting Trump
Politico | January 18, 2016 | Blake Hounshell

One of the United States' most influential evangelical leaders blasted Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. on Monday for hosting Donald Trump to give a campaign speech.

Russell Moore, who heads the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, let fly a series of tweets after Falwell gave a glowing introduction to Trump, calling him "one of the greatest visionaries of our time" and saying Trump "lives a life of helping others ... as Jesus taught in the New Testament."

Moore appeared incredulous at Falwell's language, which was more effusive than he had been with any other candidate, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz:

You’re right that the students are lot more skeptical than Falwell. On the local news last night, they interviewed some students, and they weren’t supportive of Trump.

I know. I have been known to send emails to some. They are just like that female here who “married” the first same sex couple. She and her church were kicked out. If churches do not teach the Bible, they are not true Christians.

"Falwell’s introduction of Donald was glowing. It would bring a tear to your eye."

LOL, doesn't troll school teach you guys to be any more convincing than that?

they did invite her. I called and talked to them and they said they are inviting every candidate that is running for office.
It wasn’t that they invited Trump to speak that bothers me, it was Dr. Falwell Jr all but endorsing Trump.
That bother me along with MANY...

Oh sure, your online test proves that Trump is a liberal. LOL. It only proves that you disagree with him. When I took it, Trump and Huckabee tied in first place for me. Santorum came in next. Cruz was the fifth person listed. Kasich was close to the score for Martin O’Malley toward the very bottom. Since my results showed Trump and Huckabee tied, I suppose by your “logic” that means Huckabee is a flaming liberal too? If you got almost 55% agreement with the Democratic candidates, then I think that is a sure sign that you may be the actual liberal. I got 13% agreement with O’Malley, 7% agreement with Sanders, and a whopping 0% agreement with Clinton.

And by the way, Trump didn’t “suddenly become a Republican.” He was a strong supporter of Ronald Reagan and the first George Bush, and he remained registered as a Republican during Bill Clinton’s presidency. Yes, he didn’t like W., but he switched back to Republican once Obama became president and he’s been a big critic of him. Why do Cruz supporters so very often feel the need to misrepresent Trump? Feel you can’t win by being honest about him?

Powerful graphic. I’m afraid the gravity of the message will be missed by most. I have been shocked and dismayed by those who claim the Name of Christ who are supporting Donald Trump. In my view, they’ve gone the way of the world.

In the late 90s, the majority of members of this forum insisted (rightfully so) that character matters. It was repeated so often, it became a mantra. This, of course, was when President Horndog had been “exposed” for his escapades with women. Now when someone points out Trump’s lack of character, numerous Trump toadies respond that they’re not voting for a pastor-in-chief. To add to the hypocrisy, the FReepers were critical (rightly so) of the liberals because they insisted on making excuses for Clinton. Hmmmmmm.....

I’ve read that the British actually often do say “Two Corinthians” (though I haven’t verified that for certain), and I’ve heard a devout Christian from New England do that too. Trump’s mother was, of course, British. I think you are just displaying a cultural bias on this subject. You just think that your way is the only “right” way.

The Russell Moore controversy interests me. I know he wants to accommodate folks on the confederate flag, but I just read an article of his on how we can’t retreat on solid Gospel preaching, including repentance from sins such as homosexuality, etc., no matter how popular sin becomes in our culture. Now it is possible I am missing some key information about him, but so far he seems OK. What’s the deal?

Peace,

SR

WOW and he still comes across as that type ( Hillary at least told one truth!) but it is under his current “ I’ve changed “ outfit... it will come out sooner or later again.

Moore is a social justice warrior, and he doesn’t represent the views of the rank-and-file in his denomination. Trump should be proud to be criticized by such a man.
