The year 2014 now ranks as the warmest on record since 1880, according to an analysis by NASA scientists.

Here's the main search result: The name Greenland comes from Scandinavian settlers. In the Norse sagas, it is said that Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland for murder. He set out in ships to find land rumoured to be to the northwest. After settling there, he named the land Grfnland (Greenland), possibly to attract more people to settle there

Sad to say, NASA has gone corrupt. Calling the current thaw a "fever" is pure politics. Saying that science is done by consensus is anti-science. Yep, that's NASA for you. ·
Steve Danielsson 4 hours ago (edited) +Rod Martin, Jr. Sure. The most likely scenario is that NASA, the UN, every government in every nation on earth (except those who's economy depends on fossil fuels) as well as the entire fucking community of climate scientists are engaged in a GIANT CONSPIRACY TO HIDE THE TRUTH. Why? Because reasons!
That is without a doubt the most likely explanation. Makes perfect sense. Where the fuck did I put my tin foil hat? Read more ·

Show me a graph of any climate variable X, correlation to CO2 from say Mauna Loa records, and show me a linear trend with a correlation coefficient greater than 0.7. You cannot. Therefore, you are saying, that bullshit X might cause bullshit Y and to stop Y, we are going to debase our economy, live in shit, and wait for a random result. Donnell Hill 4 months ago 2014 the hottest yr on record and not one word about the 11 yr cycles of the sun or that the Earth's magnetic field has decreased by 11% since we started measuring it. This is science that you can look it on anytime. You should also know that the best way to decrease the affects of carbon dioxide is to plant more trees. After all, we would all die without carbon dioxide for trees and Flora to make our oxygen. I'm no scientist but I did learn about this wonderful world we live on. I also love FOX News. ·
View all 3 replies Steve Danielsson 3 weeks ago (edited) +Donnell Hill I'm not mad. I'm just tired of a pointless discussion that was over 10 years ago in the scientific community. Climate deniers are nowadays in the same category as Chem-trailers, Moon hoaxers and Creationists. Anyone who is unable to discover that this debate is long over from a scientific point of view is either willfully blind for ideological reasons or, well, severely intellectually challenged.
Fun fact: The USA is the only country in the civilized world where a significant portion of the population still denies anthropomorphic climate warming and it also happens to be a country where 42% of the population believes that the earth is 6000 years old. I would wager a guess those two groups overlap quite a bit. Read more ·
Alfred H 2 months ago Why do people believe that the U.S. By itself can ease the contributions climate change. I anything, it's countries like China that have little to no environmental standards and regulations. While the U.S. Is stuck on petty movements such as cutting down on plastic bags, carpooling, taking shorts showers, etc. most of the world is just trying to catch up on the economic level and doing so by burning through fossil fuels at an alarming rate. ·
Steve Danielsson 3 weeks ago (edited) +Alfred H Not true. The US is the worst offender in the western world and per capita one of the worst world-wide. In absolute numbers it's the worst CO2 polluter after China. Apart from being the ONLY wester country to not only do NOTHING to combat climate change but in fact to do the opposite by having tax subsidies on coal for example. So nice try dodging responsibility there. China is at least trying to do something about their pollution.
I wonder how accurate the satellite data was in 1880?
Obama Admin sends them the numbers and they go with it
This has already been challenged by folks with real degrees. NASA will not even release the unprocessed data for analysis by those whobactually understand instrumenation and data analysis.
That agency has become your typical liberal joke.
I’m waiting for the Computer models to predict climate from 1990 to 2015, based on all known data in 1990.
If the computer models were any good, they would be able to “predict the past”.
They cannot.
They are choosing to ignore available satellite data when making the claim that 2014 was the hottest year on record. The satellites show no warming in approximately 20 years. Instead NASA is relying on data from ground based stations that has been mathematically altered to distort the record.
Yeah, the solar panels were made out of hardwood back then.
I’m going to miss all these funny little symbols when they go away.
...ignorance as knowledge...this is actually a “legitimate” field of academic study. The irony is overwhelming. It is called Agnotology...like agnostic.
Agnotology intersects with mis-informed education, intentionally designed “education” we call dumbing down, propaganda, spin.
The very idea that some group of people decide that education will intentionally mislead you is just abhorrent.
Worse, it puts you in a tough position when you have to decide what you really do and do not know. This dilemma makes you set a much more difficult standard for what is considered knowledge and what is apocryphal.
What’s the number for 2014, and what’s the number for the “second hottest year”? They’ll happily chirp that one year is warmer than another, but usually fail to provide the actual data.
Well if 2014 was the warmest year on record, then 2015 was cooler, which means we have entered an era of global cooling.

I do know that this last summer was actually quite cool in my particular location but this current winter has been fairly mild despite the 7 degree day we’re having now.
The winter of 2013 was one of the coldest in my memory with record ice cover on the great lakes. 2014 was a close second to 2013.
On the other hand in 2010 we didn’t even really have a winter to speak of. The lake never froze enough to be safe. 40 and 50 degree daytime temps were common in January and February. It was followed by one of the hottest and driest summers in my memory. We had something like 6 days with triple digit temps here in Southern Michigan. All the Hickory trees around here dumped their leaves in early August.
Seasonal temps are just general trends with wild swings from one year to the next being common.
What makes you think they’re going away? It’s been a while now, and no sign of a fix.
“Nasa climate scientists: We said 2014 was the warmest year on record... but we’re only 38% sure we were right” Daily Mail
Turns out 2014 beat 2010 by 0.02C. The margin of error is said by scientists to be approximately 0.1C

Today it is "unseasonable cold" in the northeast. Well guess what? When you average out the "unseasonable warm" with the "unseasonable cold" you will get something pretty close to seasonal average.
Figures lie and liars figure.
Just last week it was 2015 was the warmest. And the week before that it was 2012. Then quietly it is shifted back to the 30s. THEN, you read the fine print and all the measurements are within the margin of error. Then...You look closer and the deviations are imperceptible 1/10 degrees.
