Ted Cruz's Canadian, Goldman Sachs values
Mofo Politics ^ | Jan. 17, 2016 | MP

In the back-and-forth over "New York values", Team Cruz is now circulating a video of Trump espousing more liberal positions, 17 years ago.

It worth noting, however, that Ted Cruz espoused more liberal positions– in some cases– just 17 weeks ago…

Green Cards

In 2013, Cruz proposed doubling "the overall worldwide green card caps from 675,000 visas per year to 1.35 million per year (not including refugees and asylum-seekers)."

He flip-flopped in 2015.

Guest Workers

In 2013, Cruz proposed raising the number of H-1Bs from 65,000 to 325,000.

He flip-flopped in 2015.

Amnesty

In 2013, Cruz proposed an amendment “to provide a legal status for those who are here illegally”. In 2014, he handed out teddy bears to illegal aliens.

He flip-flopped in 2015.

Birthright Citizenship

In 2011, Cruz defended birthright citizenship.

He flip-flopped in 2015.

TPP

In April, Cruz joined Paul Ryan in support of Obama’s TPP.

He flip-flopped in June.

Snowden

When the GOP’s libertarian wing was ascendant in 2013, Cruz thanked Edward Snowden for “a considerable public service”.

He flip-flopped in January.

Crop Insurance

Cruz initially voted w/ budget hawks to cut crop insurance.

He flip-flopped after blow back from Iowa farmers.

In 2013, Cruz proposed raising the number of H-1Bs from 65,000 to 325,000.

Cruz simply wanted to make sure the H-1B ceiling in the law matched the actual number of H-1B visas the US gov't awards every year.

On TPP, he told Chris Wallace that underlings misled him. The second time he’s claimed that.

It’s one, not the only, reason I have picked Trump over Cruz. Borders, language, and culture are the three items needing protection today if our English, Judeo/Christian society is to survive. Whatever Trump was, he is now completely on board thanks to his great awakening. Cruz is an immigrant, so he is always going to favor the immigrant. Sorry, we’re covered up in immigrants who are unwilling to assimilate. It’s time for strong leadership that rejects politically-correct narratives unblinkingly.

Trump is the right man at the right time.

Fwiw......Would folks in the Cruz camp be as ‘unconcerned’ if he was born in Iran.....or Russia....and still had the American born mother, and a foreign born father????
Maybe it would be ‘legal’ ....but would it be OK?

Hypothetical I know.......but hypotheticals seem to become reality lately.

Just asking

The lying and misrepresentation you Trump folks are doing to Cruz is driving me further away from Trump every day. I know one thing, if Trump is the nominee, Cruz will campaign for him . I really doubt Trump will campaign for Cruz or any other Republican nominee , even if he doesn’t go third party.

Of course there is, but irony makes for a livelier discussion.

I really can’t stand his new H-1B proposal because it grows government in addition to keeping that stupid program alive.

“Oh, this government program isn’t working and people are upset. Let’s make it tens times worse by trying to fix it!”

he (Cruz) told Chris Wallace that underlings misled him

Really? Highly intelligent people don't rely on others. They form their own opinions. Isn't this equivalent to voting on the bill before reading it?

And who are these underlings (itself an insulting description)? Constitutional Conservatives were really letting Cruz have it about his position while he was hawking giving Obama more power with trade agreements.

grrrr......

Jeff Sessions, who wrote the Trump immigration plan, says Cruz stood by him every step of the way through the immigration debate. To me, Jeff Sessions has a lot more credibility than Donald Trump on this issue. On the crop insurance, it is not credible that Pat Roberts, buddy of Mitch McConnell, John McCain and Thad Cochrane , is not out to do as much mischief to Cruz as he can. Now, on another thread, we have somebody claiming “the girls in a dorm near Cruz asked his roommate to keep him away from them.” Any fly-specking you all can do. Meanwhile, I still offer the same challenge to Trump and Cruz ( and their freeper supporters0: if the nomination goes to your opponent, will you campaign for him? (Sorry, I have to go to work, so I wo’ t be able to hang around for your reply, I’ll get back to you later if you choose to reply to me.)

Do you have a link for that?

Hypothetically, if America was actually Iran and Trump was an ISIS leader would you still go to Mecca?

Might as well go all out with the hypotheticals.

Yikes. It appears that thanks to Trump, Cruz is becoming a campaign conservative.

Who’s the alternative, if we’re going to demand a candidate with perfect ideological rigidity? If these traits are bad for Cruz, they’re much worse for Trump.

I could tip the lever either way, but manipulations like this one push me away from Trump, not toward him. How do we know that he’ll keep his campaign promises, and not “evolve” away from them? Loud proclamations, character assassinations, bandwagon appeals, and the other games being played on this board don’t help. We’re not stupid.
