Dear presidential candidates:
A little over a year from now, one of you will take the oath of office. Before Inauguration Day is over, the unexpected could occur â a terrorist threat, a global or domestic crisis â and require your immediate attention.
Will you be ready?
As president, you will be in charge of the largest and most important organization in the world. You will have to make 4,000 political appointments, including more than 1,000 for Senate-confirmed leadership positions; oversee a $3.7 trillion budget; and manage a workforce of 2.1 million civilian employees and more than 2âmillion active-duty and reserve members of the armed forces. You will have to make decisions on a wide range of critical issues and reach accommodation with an often unruly 535-member board of directors known as Congress.
Despite the magnitude of this task, most candidates do not adequately prepare to govern. Campaigns are contentious and consuming, and carrying out transition planning well in advance of the election has been derisively viewed as presumptuous, with candidates often accused of prematurely âmeasuring the drapesâ before votes are counted.
But the 77 days between the election and the inauguration do not provide enough time to identify and vet your top management team or get up to speed on the complex policy and management issues you will face. Even waiting to begin this work until after your partyâs nominating convention this summer will be far too late.

Forget all that: lock up the female interns should Hillary win. Bubba, Her Thighness & Huma will be on the hunt!
Lol. The cult of the Presidency and it’s enormous labors continues. Ok, im ready for the story on how they age and turn gray from the sheer weight of it.
Because men in their late 40s or 50s look almost exactly the same 8 years later...
Didn’t read the ComPost article. Did they mention what a ginormous mess 0vomit is leaving behind for them to clean up?
If a Republican wins, first order of business should be a thorough firing and cleaning out of all Obola appointees.
No: good point. Typical Wapoop wonk oped.
Unless you have a posse, already in place, of mean and "not very nice men" that you have had a working relationship with for years ...
In which case ...
Step aside, Plebe.
One thing is for darn sure.
I don’t want to be President.
Dittos: you almost have to be mentally ill to want to be POTUS. Save Reagan: he had a great stability, took naps, and knew the job was bigger than him. Wish we could clone him & bring him back.
Meh, a day’s work for a top executive like Trump
That the mostly idle bureaucracy outnumbers the total number in our military is nothing short of outrageous!
Why does it cost half of the budget to administer the distribution of the hundreds of overlapping welfare tax dollars taken by force from the non-government workforce.
Outrageous! Were private charities that inefficient, they would be forced out of business for fraud and probably jailed.
After reading that, I saw no need to read further.
Nobody could POSSIBLY be as prepared as Obamao was to take the helm.

Meh. his handlers had it all scripted for the bastard. He had to do nothing but stand there.
Agree!! Why would any want to be president? What drives an individual to seek the office. Fortune, fame, notoriety? Or do they really believe they have the answers, the stamina, the power of persuasion to form our America into what they see as the best we might be (or the worst possible for those horses of a different color)
I can think of plenty of reasons WHY someone would want to be President.
I just think it's a "hell if you do, hell if you don't" situation once you get elected.
Half the people that surround you want you out or dead. Most of the people are only your 'friends' because of your position, so whom do you trust ? There is so much to be aware of, so much to do, that you could easily get burnt out rather quickly.
Obama came up with a solution. Do as little as possible, stay away from the WH as much as possible, let your minions run the show, and give yourself unearned rewards to make you feel like you did something 'good'.
Whatever end result one wishes to see - it seems to entail a lot of grief, and fortitude. It takes a certain personality to withstand that which is thrown day after day. Personally, do not have the DNA needed and wonder exactly how many really do have this in their genes. How long it took to be acquired, and under what circumstances. Or, was the individual born with that DNA in the beginning? Humans are such a puzzle at times.
I might suggest that the process of campaigning for office of the President could make one mentally ill.
