I agree. Many are (a menace). But then so are the large number of fools who walk across busy Manhattan streets while texting. Also the 5 or more jerks I tell a day that their lights are off.
This horrible idea of turning NYC into a pedestrian walkway and taking half the streets away for ridiculously wide bike lanes - as if New York streets were designed by Baron Von Haussmann - is a scourge that I hope one day will be remedied. At least Ed Koch finally admitted that his narrow, puny little bike lanes were a disaster and eventually removed them. I’m usually the pedestrian with an phone but on the other hand, when I drive in NYC, I aim to kill people (or bike riders) who get in front of my car.
