A man in Dekalb County, Georgia is thankful today for the presence of a gun in his home, crediting that fact with saving his own life and his mother's after two men forced their way into his home and began beating them and demanding money.
From ABC: "When I opened the door, these two guys stormed in with guns and started pistol-whipping me and took me to the ground," said Hernandez.
One of the intruders went after his mother, who was trying to escape.
"He started pistol whipping and kicking her in the side," he said.
The son's attacker demanded money and forced him through the house at gunpoint. He took him to a guest bedroom and threw him to the ground.
"He put a gun to my head,†Hernandez said, “and I just started fighting back."
Hernandez said it just so happened that his father's old hunting rifle was stashed away in that guest room. Hernandez had been thinking about refinishing it. During the scuffle, Hernandez managed to grab the rifle, and he started firing.

Maybe he keeps loaded weapons in most rooms. These days it could save your life.
Yep, that's a real possibility, especially if you live in a bad neighborhood.

We had friends stay with us in our house in Kampala, Uganda where I had a 5 shot Mossberg Shotgun for saftey.. We had numerous home-invasion robberies in our neighborhood by gangs of off-duty or recently discharged soldiers or national police... I warned the whole family NOT to go into my office after the lights were out for the night. Their teenage son didn’t pay attention. He set off my alarm near my bed. Jumped up and saw only his silhouette against a backlit window. I had my finger on the trigger. Coming out of a sound sleep I didn’t even remember we had guests in the house... He saw me and screamed my name... It coulda been a tragedy... Like I said, hope I never have to use that M4 Carbine...
I've been considering keeping a loaded rifle in my bedroom, because a pistol might not be adequate against an intruder wearing a flak jacket. Haven't decided yet, but I'm definitely leaning that way.
Yeah, maybe he knocked the robber down after which he grabbed the shotgun and blasted away. History (and gun battle stories) is written by the victors. Dead men tell no tales.
What about the chick that drove the car to Zaxby’s? Did she get fried, as well?

That would be one reason to get the shooter to go to that room.

an unloaded gun is worthless. my dad, an old retired detroit cop had guns everyhwere and they were all loaded. If the gun is unloaded better buy a heavy stick, it would do the same job
