Ted Cruz has said that after working on George W. Bush's 2000 campaign, being passed over for a senior position with the new administration was "a crushing blow." Turns out, it was his own choice.
Cruz was offered a job as White House associate counsel shortly after Al Gore conceded the race in December, but he rejected it, members of the Bush transition team told The Associated Press. Cruz thought he was in line for the more senior role of deputy White House counsel.
The transition team members spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly for the former Bush administration. They said that even before the associate counsel job was offered to Cruz, the deputy counsel position had been set aside for Timothy Flanigan, a veteran of the George H.W. Bush administration.
Though the titles are similar, the deputy counsel reported directly to then-White House counsel and future U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, while the associate's role was one of nine working under Flanigan.
Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said late Friday that the senator remembers the events differently. She said Cruz wrote extensively in his autobiography, published last summer, about "his experience following the 2000 Bush campaign, and the lessons he learned from it."
"He did have a meeting expressing interest in the deputy counsel job," Frazier said, "but does not recall any job offer being made."
Still, the way the transition team officials describe the incident, it underscores a recurring theme of Cruz's career, how his overt personal ambition rubbed colleagues the wrong way -- sometimes to his professional and political detriment.

Not only were they not "authorized" to speak publicly, they aren't permitted by the legal canon of ethics to reveal this kind of information. [Most personnel offices will also fire people who do so.]
This kind of anonymous "sourcing" has the stench of Trump all over it.

I remember Cruz mentioning a while ago that he thought he should have been offered the higher position. Then he admitted he was immature in his expectations, something along those lines.

Funny thing to interest a Trump supporter, too. At least Cruz’s resume is far more fitting for the role of President than is Trump’s. Especially as a representative of conservatives.

I saw a video where Cruz spoke about getting passed over for a job in the Bush admin due to his youthful arrogance or something like that. He said he learned a valuable lesson. I’m not so sure.
Not only that, but what does it prove? That Cruz didn’t want a position he felt was beneath him after all he did for Bush in the court cases against Al Gore.

Well, he does NOT have friends in RINO places, that part is true-—Ted Cruz holds their feet to the fire and exposes their hypocrisy, and they don’t like that.
Gosh, the knives are out for Cruz all over the place. I’m a Trump supporter but I am not buying all this crap about Cruz, other than he does need a once and for all on the NBC issue, now that it grew some legs.
Back to the post ... I suspect he was passed over for a more senior position and offered the associate position which would probably have felt like a dead end and demotion.

Only he didn’t leave out the job offer. He believed he deserved the higher position and used his attitude as an example of thinking too highly of himself and having learned a valuable lesson.
