Cruz offers 'apology' to New Yorkers
CNN ^ | 1/15/16 | Theodore Schleifer

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN)Ted Cruz on Friday offered an extended "apology" to those offended by his criticism of "New York values," but rather than back down from his controversial comments, he instead slammed the Empire State's "liberal politicians."

Asked by reporters whether he wanted to apologize for saying this week that Donald Trump, his main 2016 rival, "embodies New York values," Cruz turned the tables, laying out a three-minute riff on things for which he would rather apologize.

"Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio have all demanded an apology, and I'm happy to apologize," he told reporters after an event here. "I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by the liberal politicians in that state."

Cruz then proceeded, in detail, to attack Cuomo, the governor of New York, for his disapproval of fracking, the controversial energy extraction process, while also aiming his sights on de Blasio, New York City's mayor, for his policies on taxes, charter schools and policing.

"I apologize to all the cops and the firefighters and 9/11 heroes who had no choice but to stand and turn their backs on Mayor de Blasio because Mayor de Blasio over and over again stands with the looters and the criminals rather than the brave men and women of blue," he said.

Except for Reagan. Twice.

Thanks for pointing that out. 1984 was the last time NY went to the Republican in a presidential race. It's been liberal democRATs ever since. And they not only haven't had a Republican in the US Senate since 1998, they allowed Hitlery to carpetbag from Arkansas.

That, is the NY values Ted was talking about.

Trump got the best of him in the debate.

It’s good Cruz said what he did in this video.

It would have been much better if he had not tried to marginalize New Yorkers via a Trump slam.

In short, his initial slam whether on Cruz or on New Yorkers was myopic and immature.

Not good, more people will turn on him than will come to his side as a Cruz Voter.

It took Cruz 24 hours to come up with that lame scripted response? Embarrassing.

This is when Cruz was going after crony Capitalism on Wall Street in 2008. I guess you could sum it up as bribe money from Wall Street.

LOL

A margin loan lets you borrow money to invest and uses your shares or managed funds as security. It can help you increase your returns but it can also magnify your losses. Margin loans are for dedicated investors who actively monitor and manage their investments.
IOW, it was a collateralized loan.

Is this too complicated?

Think there is too much baggage here with Cruz, and makes me nervous when the Establishment is pushing him. They do not like Cruz and they WILL DOUBLE CROSS him.

I'm not giving up on Ted Cruz just yet. I really like the guy and his strong positions. That said, he really needs to put this birther issue to rest.

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas would be a fantastic choice for a VP. He is BIG on the second Amendment and the U.S. Constitution. He would also help Trump carry Texas along with the rest of the South.

If Cruz can sort out his birther issue, I think he would help Trump carry the South. Abbott seems like a nice guy and a good governor but I'm not sold on the guy being the VP.

I guess you could sum it up as bribe money from Wall Street. Now we know why it was hidden.

Then you've been misinformed by lying liberal media hacks.

He got a normal loan based on his own collateral (stocks) just like anyone else could have done. It wasn't any special treatment, it wasn't a 'bribe', period.

It was fully disclosed to the Senate. It was left off of an FEC form. It was not a big deal.

So whomever is voted in office is a 100% representative of the values?

That’s BS

Obama is leader of the USA. Do you think he represents American values?

Rather than slam “New Yorkers” Ted should have said “New York Liberal” values,,,

except he didn’t.

Mr. Precise-language, super-educated, best speaker in the world guy did NOT say NY liberals,,he painted ALL New Yorkers with the same brush.

THAT’s the problem...and he knows it.

It wasn’t Cruz that the audience booed repeatedly when he had to admit he changed positions (Cruz Elgibility) out of pure political motivation.

Because GOP voters want the liberalism the GOP provides. Ted does not provide it so they reject him as a Republican.

Actually, in my estimation, a more apt analogy might be...

Burying a turd by throwing more dirt over top of it.

Cruz knows that NY will not go for himt him and he is going to lose those Electoral Votes in any case...but he is finding the way to make his point that liberal/progressive pols are creating the negatives in NY and that that is what he is talking about. That in turn will help him elsewhere.

Trump OTOH, might just win NY State and take it from the Dems. They are going to be afraid of that.

it is indeed an interesting political election year.

Donald Trump on what constitutes "New York Values" in 1999.

Gays in the military and partial-birth abortion. He says he fully realizes they are not Iowa values.

Watch in his OWN words.
