The last 12 months have not been kind to WalMart.
When the world's largest retailer bowed to pressure to raise wages for its lowest-paid employees, the living wage crowd cheered. In short order, it became apparent that the reverberations from the $1.5 billion endeavor would spell trouble for the company.
When a series of ill-fated efforts to squeeze the supply chain failed to plug the gap, the company resorted to store closures (or "plumbing" as WalMart calls it), job cuts in Bentonville, and reduced hours.
Finally, in October, WalMart threw in the towel and cut guidance. Its shares plunged.
Now, we learn the retailer is set to close nearly 300 stores, affecting some 16,000 employees worldwide.

The Wal-Mart Express stores are closing. They’re building a full-size Wal-Mart two miles from my front door even as we speak.
But here’s what’s so awesome about it — the REST of the employees are making upwards to $15 per hour!!!! Isn’t that great??

The Obama jinx in full swing. Whatever this man has touched has turned to total crap.
My local store is getting the axe in spite of the fact that Austin is suffering (and I do mean suffering) from a huge population surge and there is no end in sight, especially for the area around that store. Heck, they can’t build those ugly apartment complexes fast enough and many new ones will be located within walking distance.
Closing our local store is just plain stupid. They remodeled it right before Christmas. I don’t get it?? All they had to do was to follow Home Depot’s lead and cut out the round the clock hours. I get that they probably lose money at 3am, but they are always busy during regular hours. Why do they insist on all or nothing?
Not so fast there. If it wasn’t for the one Walmart in my whole county, there’d be nowhere to shop. We’d have a drive two hours to the city. I’ll bow down to kiss the feet of the Walmart god any day of the week. Don’t start spouting off about the poor mom and pop stores because there weren’t enough of them to stock the products we needed before Walmart came here.
Hillary might be able to control who dead voters vote for, but she can't turn around the Obama Great Recession in the next many months. Carville's famous words :It's the economy Stupid" must keep her up at night, along with the potential indictment, along with waiting for Bill to come home, along with waiting for the 2am call, along with the thought that she is responsible for the Benghazi murders,....
Under performing, or trouble stores (union talk) or stores in areas where the shrinkage, (theft) makes it impossible to make a profit.
