Thursday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," host Joe Scarborough, former Obama "car czar" Steve Rattner and Bloomberg's Mark Halperin all weighed in on a story in The Wall Street Journal alleging Sen. Ted Cruz, a candidate for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, didn't properly disclose loans he received for his 2012 senatorial bid.
According to Rattner, it is "a little bit of a foot fault," but it also contradicts the claim he put every penny of his liquid net worth into that 2012 campaign.
"What he did, as best we could tell from the papers today is he essentially got a margin loan from Goldman Sachs," Rattner said. "It means you put up stocks worth twice that and then they lend you half the value of whatever the stocks are. So that's fairly conventional assuming the terms are. And by the way, I never thought I'd be in the position of defending Ted Cruz. From what we know now, I think it's a little bit of a foot fault. The things that are a little odd is that Cruz said he'd put every penny of his liquid net worth back into the campaign back in 2012 but instead what he seems to have done is not sold his stocks and borrowed money against it and put that into the campaign."

How’s his page doing?
Ouch, that is harsh!
Yes, but no dead female interns in his campaign office.
Not really. Cruz is being used by the global elitists (both political parties) to be the Pied Piper leading us one giant step further away from there being rules as to who can be US President.
The only question is if Cruz knows he's being used, or he's a useful idiot. I don't know which would be worse for his (crumbling) narrative.
Ted is the world’s smartest lawyer, he knows.
You think I should put this article in breaking news? All the Cruzman Sachs news seems to be going there today.
Cruz is the most inside “outsider” I’ve ever seen.
Nailed it, all of you. I thought Joe Scarborough was a republican. Did I dream that?
Please explain to me what Goldman Sachs did to you personally.
Rattner was an Obama admin official. Article is about his interview on MSNBC.
Ohhhh Thanks.
Uh oh...that might stick.
Actually, there are two possibilities:
1. Ted is the smartest lawyer. He knows.
2. Ted is not the smartest lawyer, and that's another part of his false narrative.
A really smart lawyer would have gotten the citizenship issue off the table a long time ago.
It's more a question of how dumb he thinks conservatives are than how smart he is.
Just the term Goldman Sachs is going to set off a visceral reaction amongst all those who loathe and detest the TARP bailouts.
This is going to hurt Ted. I only wish he had taken his loan from some small S&L out there.
What a weasel.

I doubt he had a choice. Mrs. Cruz was most likely calling the shots on this deal. The choice was either take the hit and liquidate the account or take money from Goldman. I serious doubt Cruz prefers his wife works at GS. It was bound to attract attention sooner or later. The optics are just terrible here.
