When Donald Trump takes the stage at the Republican debate in Charleston, South Carolina, on Thursday night, he’ll have an unlikely home field advantage.
The New York real estate mogul has posted a consistently commanding lead in presidential preference polls in the state, which holds its primary election just two weeks after Iowa and New Hampshire. He’s made more than a dozen trips there, drawing crowds in the thousands, while the gatherings of his competitors pull in hundreds at best.
In fact, across the South – in states like Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Georgia and North Carolina – Mr Trump has been immensely popular. Last August, the candidate gave a speech at a football stadium in Mobile, Alabama, that drew an estimated crowd of 30,000 – orders of magnitude above what any other Republican has tallied.

I think Trump will have a head of steam before the primaries even move south. I know Ted Cruz has campaigned heavily in the South as well - at least during the summer.
Tell us something we don’t know.
His strategy needs to include taking Virginia from Hillary. If he can do that, it’s game over.
It’s confidence, masculinity, and fearlessness with a bit of bravado, even if it’s with a funny accent.
Things that have always made up the character of the south.

This GOP race is clearly between Trump and Cruz now. All the evidence points to Trump being the eventual nominee and more importantly, U.S. President.

He’s taking the whole nation. And after Nikki Haley’s GOPe attack speech the other night he will gain even more support. WTG GOPe you managed to piss off your own base.

The crowds are undeniable. The poll results are undeniable.
They sign on the dotted line first in Iowa, then NH, then NV & SC:
It’s up to Trump to close the deal.
If he does, this is over.
I think the base has been pissed-off for a while now, and the GOP-e is unaware, doesn’t care, or can’t resist piling on.
Regardless, it comes to the same result in the end—Massive conservative support for an “outside” candidate.
There was a YouGov poll from a couple of days ago that asked about a three person race between Trump, Cruz and Rubio and the numbers were 45% Trump, 30% Cruz, and Rubio %21. It also showed that, among those asked, Trump was “Bold and Strong”, Cruz was “True Conservative”, Rubio “Establishment”.
Thing is, he is uncontested in the “North” (NJ, MA, CT) and has 30 point leads in these states.

He is leading in Tennessee by 12 points.
