Weather during the three-day Martin Luther King Jr. weekend is likely to be soggy in the Sacramento area, but ideal for skiers heading to the Sierra.

Ski resorts are welcoming the snowfall that began arriving Wednesday and is expected to continue with a series of storms forecast through Sunday.

“The snow has been falling overnight,” Northstar California resort’s Cassandra Walker said Wednesday morning. “We already have a few inches piling up. It is still coming down. It is absolutely beautiful.”

Walker said that the resort is prepared for a busy weekend, a time when families can get away for an extended visit. Northstar, near the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe, has a base of 74 inches of snow near the summit, 8,300-feet elevation.

Homewood Mountain Resort reported shortly after 3 p.m. that it had received 6 inches of new snow since 11 a.m.

An endless series of light/medium storms punctuate by a couple of larger ones.

Base snow pack is the highest in the country so far, including the Rockies.

Sierra ski resorts are running between 6 and 7 ft of snow, base.

Another 5 ft, at least, expected over the next 7-10 days.

The months after Christmas is when the heavier part of el Nino moisture is typical.

Call the drought broken.

The last time we had a “seven year drought,” the “March miracle” replenished every water table in the state in one month. So much for feckless prognostications.

Yeah, 97-98 when the central valley was one giant lake.

Water as far as the eye could see, even in an airplane.

It was beautiful:)

Speaking of water. What has happened to America? A voluntary boil your tap water notice in Sacramento? Happened for part of town for a few days this week. We are becoming a 3rd world country since so many of them are coming here.

Your water was once my water.

You need to move further up stream.

We drink it first up here in the mountains. They clean it up a bit .
Then it goes back in the river

Sacramento then drinks it..then cleans it again .

Then it goes back in the river to San Francisco

The further you go down stream the more liberal the people get.

Just my theory

So all the so called “smart talking heads” on the networks whom said last Fall that El Nino would only bring rain and no snowpack to California due to the warmer water temps (and therefore not helpful for the drought) were wrong? I’m shocked
