Without fail, as soon as I make the decision to head home, Seven will wake up from her nap and “assume the position”....her arms over the back of the sofa, watching out the window.

Sorry to disappoint you, but dogs are governed by the scientific rule that there is no such thing as ESP.

However, it may be only slightly less interesting that dogs do possess incredibly accurate internal clocks that rival their famous sense of smell in their incomprehensibility to humans.

You are your Seven's entire world. Her day revolves around you, and she knows quite well when to begin anticipating your arrival home. She prepares herself accordingly, and that's what seems freaky to you.

Try varying your departure from work by more than an hour or so one way or another, and you will find that she doesn't anticipate this.

You should re-read what I wrote.

I have *no* predictable “routine”, whatsoever and I work at home.

*I* never know when I’m going to get bored with shopping and go home.
