WASHINGTON— Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Sen Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president Wednesday calling for Cruz to drop out of the race.

@realDonaldTrump
"Sadly, there is no way that Ted Cruz can continue running in the Republican Primary unless he can erase doubt on eligibility. Dems will sue!"
Trump recently warned the GOP that if Cruz becomes the nominee ,the party would be risking the White House. Trump claims Democrats would hold up the election in court, litigating whether or not Cruz is considered a natural born citizen.
Trump’s views on Cruz’s eligibility have changed throughout the campaign.
The first time he was asked about Cruz’s Canadian birth in 2013, Trump, the loudest ‘birther’ questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama citizenship, wasn’t sure if Cruz was qualified. Trump was still not convinced last March, months before announcing his own bid for president. By September, Trump said he was confident Cruz had the legal standing to run.

This will lose votes for Trump.
He has lost mine.
If Dershowitz says he is eligible, he is eligible. Like him or hate him, he is one of the best when it comes to the Constitution.
What has Levin said? He seems quiet.
I was like you, Cruz/Trump, Trump/Cruz, but unlike you I see Cruz for what he is... A pandering hypocrite.
Cruz used dirty push polling in Iowa and mocks “New York City Values” while taking money from Gay New Yorkers...
If Cruz is the nominee I’ll vote for him in the general of course, but in the primary... He can take a walk!
This is what worried me about Cruz, years ago. Unlike Obama who lied his way through life and had the paper trail snipped and pasted, Cruz, an honorable man, told the truth about his beginnings.
I thought and mentioned here in FR years ago that Cruz needed to get the Supreme Court’s imprimatur BEFORE he declared his intentions.
I prefer Cruz for president. I can accept Trump. It’s a shame Cruz didn’t square this away 2-3 years ago. The democrat party WILL push the issue if Cruz is the party standard bearer.
just simply ignoring the unwise posturing of one’s opponent...would likely be the smartest choice.
when you wrestle in the MUD...you get dirty!
It's only "down and dirty" if the candidates make it that way and the people buy it.
If Cruz is the nominee, that "finding" will only be whatever traction it gets in the press. It will affect some voters, and there is only downside risk to Cruz on that (meaning the most votes come if he is clearly qualified, and gets fewer votes if there is a cloud).
If Cruz becomes president-elect, Congress can find him unqualified. I doubt it would, but it could, meaning it has the constitutional authority. Either way Congress goes, a lawsuit could be taken to SCOTUS between the time Congress finds Cruz qualified, and swearing in. SCOTUS could refuse to adjudicate the question (meaning there is no check on Congress seating an unqualified president-elect), or take it up.
There is no new nominee. The unqualified person finds something else to do, and the law seats the veep-elect. If the veep-elect isn't qualified either see 3 USC for next in line.
For the list - I only recognize one of them.
Reagan had a record of governing as a Republican. Trump is still a Democrat.
“and he sure as hell is NOT a conservative.”
because when it was Obama, bringing this issue up was ok.
Now? It’s “bad”?
Why doesn’t Trump go to court to get a declaratory judgement against Cruz as he has urged Cruz to do to himself?

At some point, Cruz is going to have to address this issue.
Ted’s doing it as well.
That does NOT equal this;
“Donald Trump says Ted Cruz should leave the presidential race”
When anyone needs to blatantly mis-represent to make a point they cannot be taken seriously.
You can’t just go to the Supreme Court like it’s the DMV to get your paper stamped.
Cruz can’t sue himself and federal courts can’t issue advisory opinions. The only person with standing are candidates. Trump should put up or shut up, but he won’t because he doesn’t want the issue resolved.
Congrats. Welcome home.
Works for Me!
Ted Cruz for President (97%) / Mike Lee for Vice President (100%)

Where do you get such BS. Big words from a newby condemning the only full conservative running this season.
Seriously? Levin has said unequivocally that Cruz is eligible and has invited Anyone to debate him on it.
