Donald Trump says Ted Cruz should leave the presidential race

WASHINGTON— Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Sen Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president Wednesday calling for Cruz to drop out of the race.

Donald J Trump
@realDonaldTrump
"Sadly, there is no way that Ted Cruz can continue running in the Republican Primary unless he can erase doubt on eligibility. Dems will sue!"

Trump recently warned the GOP that if Cruz becomes the nominee ,the party would be risking the White House. Trump claims Democrats would hold up the election in court, litigating whether or not Cruz is considered a natural born citizen.

Trump’s views on Cruz’s eligibility have changed throughout the campaign.

The first time he was asked about Cruz’s Canadian birth in 2013, Trump, the loudest ‘birther’ questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama citizenship, wasn’t sure if Cruz was qualified. Trump was still not convinced last March, months before announcing his own bid for president. By September, Trump said he was confident Cruz had the legal standing to run.

I believe he is a citizen and qualified but people who don't like him or prefer Trump won't.

I'm a Trump supporter but I believe Cruz is as much a citizen as any other natural born American. If it were up to me, we'd bring Canada into the U.S. anyhow. Well maybe excepting Quebec.

Trump's taking a lot of heat on this (as always) but I see his point. If Cruz gets nominated and the Dems are able to make hay of this in the general, that's not good for our side. Cruz will have a tough enough time as it is in the general.

I was really hoping Cruz could just end this silliness by either producing the necessary documentation or otherwise obtaining a court ruling that would hold up to additional scrutiny and put this to bed. It's a shame that this is even happening. But better to get it resolved now then during the general.

Reagan was a Democrat in the 50s...
Trump was a Democrat in the 00s...

HUGE difference...

Notice: Reagan LEFT the Democrats as they moved away from him in the 60s/70s.

Trump on the other hand, stuck with them until politically convenient 5- 7 years ago.

You HAVE to see the difference... you cannot possibly be that blinded by the glitz and fame of Trump...

That is actually a good response later to Trump. Be my VP. If I am right, you build your wall for me. If you are right, you get to be president.

What’s he hiding, that he won’t have the Declaratory Judgement filed? Maybe nothing at all, but it sure makes it look fishy. Just do it, and be done with it. That would be the best way to get EVERYONE to stop talking about it. Maybe he will.

A party cannot file for a declaratory judgment unless there is an actual "case or controversy." Who would be the other party to the declaratory judgment action? Has any state registrar threatened to keep Cruz off of the ballot?

Just because Trump said that Cruz should file for a declaratory judgment, doesn't mean that Cruz CAN file for a declaratory judgment.

I could not even watch that farce last night, or the response to it, or even any of the the coverage of it after.

I have had ENOUGH of these people.

You said “He can’t survive a congressional decision” I took that to mean a vote. I’m I correct in that you were born overseas to a servicemember, or did you have children overseas. What is you position on their or your birthright?

I was born in Frankfurt. Adopted by an American military couple and naturalized at Chicopee, Mass...not a player.
My opinion is not worth much, but two US parents and born on US soil is the threshold. If I had to choose one or the other, Two US Parents is more important than location, (demonstrated loyalty). I think military children are a special category not considered by the Founding Fathers..but if the parents are NBC, the children should be too. Again, my opinion is just that..

If Trump is Fonzie, I wonder who Cruz would be. Richie's dad maybe?

Yeah, Trump might say Moses had a questionable birth. Didn’t he float down the river in a basket or something?

You must first know your enemy to defeat your enemy. Trump understands how low the Democrats will stoop to win.

Reagan was a Democrat in the 50s...
Trump was a Democrat in the 00s...

HUGE difference...

Reagan was a union president and a Democrat in the 50s. (a few years before running for CA governor)
Trump was a businessman and a Democrat in 00s.

It’s a wash. Give it up, FRiend.

Trump has never done well in the debates. I've watched them all and he's done very badly. Back when I wanted him to do well, he made me nervous with making faces all the time. Yet all his supporters go to Drudge and say he won.

As the front runner, Trump has gotten the lion's share of questions directed at him. Now that HE has chosen to go at Cruz, some of his share of mike time is going to go to Ted in the next debate.

We will see how the bluster stands up mano a mano.

Aha. That’s the first bit that makes sense. Thank you.

I don’t believe the effect is that strong, but it is substantial and explains trump’s repeated attacks on the point.
