Donald Trump says Ted Cruz should leave the presidential race

WASHINGTON— Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Sen Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president Wednesday calling for Cruz to drop out of the race.

Donald J Trump
@realDonaldTrump
"Sadly, there is no way that Ted Cruz can continue running in the Republican Primary unless he can erase doubt on eligibility. Dems will sue!"

Trump recently warned the GOP that if Cruz becomes the nominee ,the party would be risking the White House. Trump claims Democrats would hold up the election in court, litigating whether or not Cruz is considered a natural born citizen.

Trump’s views on Cruz’s eligibility have changed throughout the campaign.

The first time he was asked about Cruz’s Canadian birth in 2013, Trump, the loudest ‘birther’ questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama citizenship, wasn’t sure if Cruz was qualified. Trump was still not convinced last March, months before announcing his own bid for president. By September, Trump said he was confident Cruz had the legal standing to run.

Yeah.

I thought Cruz was a high powered constitutional lawyer, he can’t figure this one out? Hell, I’ve heard several suggestions from FReepers on how Cruz could get this done. For example he could work it out with the Texas States Attorney to bring it to court. No, there is a reason Cruz is not bringing this before a judge.

Whoops something happened during my editing there. Let me try again-

It really is an interesting and perplexing situation.

There doesn’t appear to be anyway for Cruz to resolve this legally on his own, nor does there appear to be a way for anyone else to resolve it or help him resolve it by way of a suit prior to the general election being over and Cruz having won.

Only then does it seem it could find its way before a court.

I don’t have much knowledge on a so called declaratory judgment, but it seems like Ted would have to somehow go before a court being both the plaintiff and the defendant at the same time, and I’m not even sure such a thing exists TBH.

Madness!

Trump is sounding more and more like a jerk and a coward, afraid to fight Cruz on issues.

Congrats. Welcome home.

Please, both of you will be voting for Trump in the general, and you'll like it.

I don’t know if it is intentional or not but you are totally missing the point. The point of the lawsuit would be to throw the election to the democrats by causing doubt with undecided voters.

-- There really is no way for me to know for sure. --

Well, improve your odds of getting it right by not depending on others to tell you what to believe. Read the constitution, the answer is in there.

If you think the issue will be settled by SCOTUS, look at Rogers v. Bellei for what they said about the citizenship (label) of a citizen born abroad to a citizen parent. Bellei was a US citizen. Not saying SCOTUS would follow its own "precedent" (scare quotes, there are no presidential election cases on the question of NBC, which is what has to happen to "settle" the exact question for the pedants among us), because SCOTUS decides cases on the basis of picking the side they want to win, not on the law.

He (Donald) is losing me quickly, cant imagine I am the only one that was originally for Cruz and Trump that is now very disappointed in Trump.

My impression also is that RUSH and Levin are no longer warning Trump from going after (TRASHING) the most Conservative candidate in Cruz, like they did a couple weeks ago. That time Trump backed off, but now it seems as if he is getting little resistance from them now.

If Levin said it, I believe it. This is a man who belongs on the Supreme Court.

This law professor reminds me of Anita Hill.

Trump has standing to sue over eligibility. He's the one running against Cruz. Why doesn't he just do it?

What would be the upside for Trump? He is already beating Cruz nationally and most likely in even Iowa?

“The Congress knows this, and so does Cruz. He can’t survive a congressional decision..he’s made too many enemies...”

Do you think that Cruz is the only citizen to be born abroad? There are probably hundreds of thousands of people born overseas while their parents were serving. My two oldest children were born in Berlin, Germany while I was stationed there in the US Army. No politician what to piss off Military Veterans by telling them their children don’t have a birthright

Beyond being a comforting figure Reagan was steadfast in his positions - well, not always but pretty much so. Those positions by and large were good for this country. But Reagan was conned on immigration and he signed budgets much larger than conservatism should have allowed.

Beyond that, it did take seven years before folks started to question all of Reagan's decisions. So what is worse... this comment about Reagan or Cruz running while claiming to be Reagan while he is not.

What rubbish. Which polls are you looking at that say Trump can’t win against Cruz? In most, he runs ahead of little Teddy by 20 points. You are delusional.
