GOP Race Hasn't Stuck to the Script (Ya think, Jonah)
townhall.com ^ | Jonah Goldberg

On the Republican side, however, the conventional wisdom is dead. The so-called establishment GOP candidates look like they're re-enacting the fight scene in the movie "Anchorman," attacking one another at every turn.

What's going on? In the GOP race, the real culprit isn't Donald Trump, it's Jeb Bush.

*snip*

Jeb Bush, for his part, went into the 2016 campaign with the establishment largely in his pocket. The big donors, his family's political machine and veterans of his brother's White House lined up. So far, so good. But Bush never really bothered to cultivate the right. He even seemed to take it for granted. Once it became clear that the grass roots were not going to rally to Bush, he started to hemorrhage support from voters and donors who wanted to back a winner. But by then it was too late to unify the establishment around someone else.

This was a particularly bad moment for such a mistake. Even moderate and liberal Republican voters have gone populist, which is why many are flocking to Trump. Acting a bit like Democrats, his supporters have fallen in love. It's not clear they can be won back by conventional politicians.

Trump is successful because he says on the stump the same things many of us scream at the TV during the evening news.

Bush, on the other hand, acts like an elitist prick.

Jeb is arrogant. Little things mean a lot. A noblesse oblige attitude on issues like Common Core? Instead of saying that, he is for it but understands the public’s attitude against it, he continues to insist that he will ram it down everyone’s throat. We have had enough petty dictatorial actions in the last seven years, thank you very much. My wife and I work with our son on his High School Geometry every day. This is Jebbyworld Education? No Thanks !

Hey Jonah, here’s a clue for you:

“Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside
And it is ragin’.
It’ll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’.”

They seem to miss that each time they write a 'the conventional wisdom is dead' article, that they created the 'conventional wisdom,' which was really only a collective hypnosis mostly shared by those in their own industry.

They bill themselves as thinkers with inside knowledge and insight, yet they make the excuse that they were misled ... by what? ... their own mouths.

The excuse advertises their out-of-touch-ness

A better tack would be to write humble pieces about 'how I got drawn into the wrong ideas, and what this teaches us and me about our craft, meaning I am guilty guilty guilty and here's how I fell victim, and how I'll avoid it next time.' (Hint - humility.) God forbid they engage in self reflection instead of insulting us and making excuses for themselves.

Instead they are saying "I was right about the conventional wisdom, it was the conventional wisdom that was wrong." Who created the conventional wisdom? "Guns don't kill people, people kill people! But, thinkers don't promulgate conventional wisdom, conventional wisdom promulgates conventional wisdom!" ... that's their argument. Bullsh*t Jonah! YOU were the ones pulling the trigger. But you stand over the dead body of your ideas over the past year (decade) and blame your gun.

They are blaming the ideas, instead of themselves ... but the ideas were theirs ... and they called us stupid for our ideas. FU!

quote “He even seemed to take it for granted”

lol

I wish he had just taken us for granted!

Instead he was openly hostile to us!

If Bush hadn’t run, the establishment might of been able to push Rubio on us. But another Bush, especially one who openly hates conservatives was a bridge too far.

Cruz - real, total conservative who has been studying all thereof for 30 plus years.
DT - a fake who is more progressive than even gop much less conservative, admitted getting his foreign policy from “the shows” and doesn’t have even the basics taught in civics class. Has no manners, record holder for biggest braggart, most flip flops, beats Obama at Alinsky tactics.
You guys think he is awesome because he uses Alinsky tactics on all rivals, real and perceived and he said he was going to deport illegals - which he will never do - then walked it back saying they could come back?
Because I don’t agree you will call me names, impugn my sanity and otherwise berate me = just like your leader.

I’m kind of glad Yeb! told us he did not want or need us.

Made it easier for people to see that his loyalty is to Mexico and Mexicans and not to Americans.

Jonah, please sir enlighten all of the serfs out here on the fruited plain. Did you really believe that Jebbie’s statement coming out of the box ‘I can do it without all you right wing extremists’ was the right thing to say; the man was correct in the fact that he could? The two of you deserve something for your effort. That something would be the loss you will eventually get. Jeb started flat, remained flat, and it will not take much soil to bury him flat.

It’s not clear they can be won back by conventional politicians.

*****************************

It is perfectly clear to me. I and many others will never again vote for “the establishment candidate”.

John McCain was the last for me and I only voted for him because of Sarah. Never again.

This is a very simplistic scenario, well before the presidential race begins, the candidates sit down with a blank piece of paper and their consultants.

They then devise their strategies and their messages they will delivering to the voters, that they think will get their votes.

This year, except for Trump, his paper was the only one with the right answers , the other candidates truly missed the mark and got it way wrong.

Take Jeb for instance, this is the Breitbart headline of 12/02/2014 after Jeb met with the Wall Street Journal CEO Council...

Jeb Bush: Republicans Don’t Need Conservatives to Win White House, Should Not Defund Exec Amnesty

The article states Bush has shown every indication that he will not pander to conservatives. Bush states that the successful candidate "must be willing to lose the primary to win the general"

And quite honestly Jeb got it right, if you want to poll at 3% and lose the primary. Now he just has to figure out how you get in the general after losing the primary

Did anybody explain to Jeb this is bowling and not golf...high score wins idiot
