State Of The Union: After seven years in the White House, how does one measure Barack Obama's success as president? How about by the standards he set for himself in his first State of the Union address?
Obama gave his eighth and final SOTU address after we went to press. But we're on safe ground predicting that he spent a good chunk of it praising himself.
I saved the country from a second Great Depression! Saved the American auto industry! Extended health insurance to 19 million people! Took on climate change. Made the world a safer place!
Those are all dubious claims that we've repeatedly debunked. But beyond that, our 44th president has a funny way of resetting the bar â always lower â so he can claim to have leapt over it.
Yes, there are 9.3 million more jobs today than in January 2009, but there are 17.2 million more people than when Obama took office, which means that the economy has created only about half the jobs needed just to keep up with population growth.
Real median household income is lower than it was in January 2009. The number of people in poverty...

Racial divisions...

Obama said he would end the day when the country "managed to spend more money and pile up more debt" without solving problems. Since then, he added more than $8 trillion in debt and leaves a mountain of problems unsolved.
He said he'd vastly improve education in the country, but math and test scores have been falling over the past two years. Graduation rates are up, but they were climbing under Bush as well.
One thing that Obama has unquestionably achieved in office is to lower expectations of what a successful presidency means.

The entire country’s hanging by a frayed thread after 7 years of this bozo, if that answers anything.
ANYONE who claims they are better off today than seven years ago is either insane or works for the government (the two are not mutually exclusive).
Bugger.
Or just received an inheritance.
NO!
There was a State of the Union address?
He drones, on and on about how bad politics have become. That Lincoln or Roosevelt with their gifts might have been able to heal the divide that has only gotten worse.
I don’t think Lincoln would have created a riot Czar, AL Sharpton, and sent him in and out of the white house to start riots. Maybe respecting other Americans was above Mr. Obamas abilities as a human being, raised in the islamic world with an Islamic father and step father. Piss be upon him and his prophet who rots in hell.
Portfolio is up about 19% because of me, and despite Obama.
That is NJ in a nutshell; companies and their workers are fleeing as our government worker caste sucks us dry. As real jobs leave, our government workers are our upper middle class - and practically the only Americans breeding.
Nothing drives up stock prices like dumping their American workers; the stock market is inversely related to Americans’ standard of living.
I'm up 19%,because of my ability to invest, and navigate around Obama's idiocy.
There was a SOTU last night, totally could care less but I usually know when such events take place.
Honestly I don’t care for that crap, especially from Obama because he talks down to people like an insecure professor who should be working at the fry cooker instead but is given authority over undergrads.
I’m not criticizing the investment vehicle, just explaining (partially) why many stocks are doing so well. They’ve been chopping costs (us) for years.
In one respect I am, at least on paper than I was seven years ago.
Seven years ago I was in a horrible low paying state job with a PHB-ette psycho boss. After many ups and downs leaving there, I landed a contract job at a factory that turned into the best paying job I ever had.
Taxes and other ripoffs of course take their heavy toll.
In most other respects I am no better just like most real people.
I don’t know. I see all the newborn’s listed in the Sunday paper. A majority of them are born to parents with differing last names. The listed careers of the parents aren’t predominately government. If they even have one. Don’t know about where you live or if it’s just a location thing, but we have our share of government in NY for sure.
I’m in northern NJ; it seems anyone with multiple children is either a government worker or on welfare (instead of workfare).
I imagine there are some who did pretty well. Vultures feeding on the corpses.
I can remember 50 years ago when something like that would be jaw dropping, scandalous, and met with whispers.
Maybe the most telling example of how badly morals have fallen in the past couple generations.
