Who is Donald Trump?
American Thinker ^ | January 13, 2016 | Steve McCann

Posted on 01/13/2016 12:42:08 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

I applauded when Donald Trump jumped into the Republican presidential nominating fray. Here was someone with overwhelming national recognition due to his celebrity status, as well as someone who was politically independent due to his wealth. Someone of that stature could potentially drive a stake through the heart of the Republican establishment and forcefully blunt the folly of political correctness that has inundated American society. During the early stages of his campaign Trump exceeded all expectations in both of these arenas. However,as the novelty has begun to wear thin and his speeches and talking points have become annoyingly repetitive the question must be asked:who is Donald Trump?

.....he has dramatically changed positions on taxes, health care, gun control, labor unions, immigration and abortion over the past 20 years....there is no thinking person, much less a politician, that has not evolved in their approach and positions on various political issues over the years particularly as they get older and circumstances change.

While Trump's vacillations on issues over the years are not overly troubling on the surface, these dramatic evolutions do require a thought provoking examination of his character and who he truly is...

..In a deposition, conducted on December 19-20,2007,the following exchange between Trump and the attorney for the Defendant took place [Trump:I'm worth whatever I feel]:...

Over the years Trump has contributed enormous sums of money to individual Democrats and party campaign committees including the most unethical and partisan Senate Majority Leader in recent history-Harry Reid...[justifying]these contributions as being necessary to essentially buy influence in order to get his real estate projects etc. approved...

..but that does not explain when asked in February of 2014 who were his favorite journalists,he listed such liberal luminaries as: Maureen Dowd,Diane Sawyer,Andrea Peyser,George Stephanopoulis,Bob Scheiffer and Mika Brezinski...in 1999 when he quit the Republican Party saying, "I just believe the Republicans are just too crazy right."?......

Sen. Cruz has ALWAYS been for a pfaseout, to give the industry time to adjust. That isn’t being on both sides of an issue. It’s treating folks with consideration.

Recent assessments versus a lowering market will result in assessments being higher than market value. Since 2008, that has happened in some locations, and tax assessments have been challenged more than ever.

In many place assessments have not been done in years, and the tax rate is based on a much lower-than-market value.

Good for you. I entirely agree, and did the same.

Once the nomination was won, I had a tagline that said: I don't care for Romney, but the alternative is unthinkable.

Unfortunately, I was correct, and here we are.

Worthy of barely a wry smirk, now.

He’s an incredibly tiresome person and the same rant wears thin after a few hundred repeats.

:)

But you misrepresent Sen. Cruz’ position on the phaseout as being new, or a straddlr. He has ALWAYS held that position, and it is trump that claimed it was a flip-flop. trump is a liar.

Yeah, it sure went to crap, fast.

But to come in here, knowing I’d done *nothing*...I could not have lived with the guilt.

Civic duty and all that.

Ok...we know this now, but Cruz apparently left that open. He didn’t make that clear from the start, at least not to the common guy on the street.

The bottom line right now is this:

1. Trump supports the ethanol mandate
2. Cruz does not

That’s what Iowa sees. Don’t you understand that’s the issue here? Why is a one trick pony for you?

Ok. He embellished things. CRuz is NOT a flip flopper, but we still come to this:

1. Trump supports the mandate
2. Cruz is for a phase out

Now let the people of Iowa vote, and obviously on this issue they will probably vote for Trump. Cruz blew it all the way around, My Friend, as you’d expect for a newbie.

I’m quite happy if Iowa voters see it that way, that trump is for continued crony capitalism, and Sen. Cruz stands on principle and opposes it. And did not filled flop in consistently favoring a phaseout.

I disagree on who blew it. Sen. Cruz has been consistent. It is trump who is a liar. And speaking of newbies...

You seek a totalitarian pro-Trump site where the past is changed to fit the current truth and the leader is always right. So far, we still have free speech, and this is a conservative site, not a site solely dedicated to hiding the Trump biography and all of his duplicities. Good luck with that.

I’ve come to the opinion, actually years ago, that the guy or gal who has the best smile wins. Carter had a better smile than Ford, and Reagan had the better smile than Carter etc.

Trump is going to win, cause he looks better than Cruz. He dresses sharp, looks sharp. You close your eyes and you picture the man.

Sorry, but Cruz looks like Greaser you went to school with in the early 60s. He looks like he buys his suits from Hong Kong tailors online. This nothing about what is in either man’s head or heart, it tells us the superficiality of it all.

Fact is, what you and I have debating has nothing to do with the votes cast. It has more to do with perception. Somebody says something about Trump, Trump calls him out. Someone misrepresents Cruz, and he laughs it off.

Sorry, it’s the perception of weakness. And Cruz looks weak, even though in reality, he might be a more formidable and aggressive man as president.

You keep talking about one thing and one thing only, for weeks now. That Trump lied. That means nothing. Try and paint Trump as a serial liar is like trying catch the wind. He’s not.

I’m sorry you judge these things on such a superficial level. You are the definition of the low information voter.

I oppose trump for many reasons. That he has lied on a number issues is true. But there’s plenty of other reasons to oppose him.

But it doesn’t matter to you. trump has, according to you, the best smile.

I would laugh if you weren’t so pathetic.

http://www.redstate.com/2016/01/13/establishment-chooses-trump-cruz/

“....Why would the establishment prefer Trump, the man they have fought against so vociferously since the day he announced? Well, they know that, bluster aside, not much would probably change under a Trump presidency. Trump has no special interest in cutting spending or eliminating special interests. Given that he’s been the beneficiary of both throughout the entirety of his career in private industry, they have reason to believe that under a Trump presidency, the trough will only get wider and deeper while Trump is off chasing after a border wall they know they can prevent him from building. And ultimately, if Trump loses (as they expect him to do), then they can just fundraise off anti-Hillary angst for at least the next four years. Not the worst possible result, from the standpoint of a guy like Mitch McConnell.

On the other hand, they have reason to believe that if Cruz is elected President, he might actually try to do some of the things he is campaigning on. The history of their interaction with him shows that he means business about trying to cut spending, and actually overturning Obamacare - a proposition which scares them half to death.

In the end, they are not really bothered by the prospect of a guy who allegedly converted to conservatism five minutes ago and shows no real ideological mooring other than relentless self-promotion. They already swallowed that pill when they backed Romney in 2012 and McCain in 2008, after all.

So faced with a choice between the two, the establishment has clearly taken sides and their side is Trump’s.”
