OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

This *scientist* does not have the slightest idea of how evolution works. There would have to be preferential dying for a new characteristic to evolve. How is rising water on planet earth in the 21st century going to promote preferential dying of people with normal toes? I can see how it might promote the growth of companies that specialize in building sea walls, but preferential dying of people with normal toes? Really?

Sea levels have been on the rise for 20,000 years and we still don’t have webbed feet.

Few things are cuter than a duckling’s feet, so I’ll give them that.

Salamander: "/lounge lizard from the black lagoon"

I saw Creature from the Black Lagoon as a young boy, when it first came out -- scared me away from monster movies to this day. ;-)

Little did I realize it was actually scientific research for future evolutionary changes:

“Reptilicus” did it for me.

For years, every time some scientist dug up something from the ice or tundra, I was filled with dread.

And then there was The Day Of The Triffids.

Once I got over the fear of killer plants, Children Of The Corn came around and my family’s crops freaked me out.

:D

My parents didn’t let me see that kind of thing, but I managed to be thoroughly scared by “The Wizard of Oz.”

Sooth222:

Thanks!
I never before realized all the great benefits from AGW.
As for Lefties now evolving into more aquatic beings, always did think there was something about them somewhat, uh, fishy.

This would be less nonsense if humans occasionally had babies with webbed feet now. It’s a special kind of stupid that thinks mutation only shows up when needed. Actual mutations are more commonly known as birth defects like Downs Syndrome.

I agree... saw it in the theater as a young boy and even though the monster was shown on the theater posters it was a startling intro on the screen. They set the scene up perfectly, slow and placid boat on the lagoon and then the creature burst up from the water!

Still one of the scariest monster intros ever... maybe even the most.

Scientists? Any jerk off the street could make such a statement. Hope this wasn’t a result of a fed grant that used my tax dollars!

Nah, this guy is way off base.

The current evolution of the foot is the elongation of the big toe due to increasing wearing of flip-flops. I predict the big toe & the toe next to it (the piggy that stayed home) will grow long & curl to wrap around the flip-flop post to better secure the “shoe” to the foot.

You can’t wear flip-flops with webbed feet. Duh! :)

Another one.

http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2016/01/caltech-suspends-professor-harassment-0

“According to Ott’s website, as of last week he was advising five graduate students. He is the principal investigator on two active grants from the National Science Foundation, including a prestigious, 5-year CAREER award for promising young investigators. Part of that award helps support a summer workshop for dozens of graduate students in astrophysics from around the world.”......

************

Below is the full sordid tale about this professor, and who got the boot and who stayed (he has grant money - see above, so he stayed)
