As I said, I don’t know all that much. Still, neither of them received flak for dragging America into it. At least, nothing compared to the amount of flak our soldiers got for fighting it.

Oh, LBJ got plenty of flak for getting so many good Americans killed in Vietnam.
In fact, the backlash against the war was so bad, that in 1968, he went before the nation and told us that he would not run for re-election, and would not accept his party's nomination for a second term.
If Kennedy had lived, and had pursued the same tragic course, he would have been vilified by the people, as well. Americans of all stripes hated that war.
