Mike Murphy should take a lesson from the guys over at Keep The Pr'mise. They have just released an ad about Marco Rubioâs record on immigration and it pulls no punches. Instead of relying on silly imagery about Rubio's boots and 50 year old pop culture references, this ad goes directly at Rubio's record, particularly his work on comprehensive immigration reform, aka 'The Gang of 8 Bill.'
Check it out:
See what they did? Images of Barack Obama, Charles Schumer along with using Rubioâs words and actions to highlight what he did. No matter what you think of Rubio, this is a very good ad for Ted Cruz.
The strategy here for the Cruz people is to put as much distance as they can between him and Rubio because Cruz doesn't have that luxury with Trump. At some point, depending on how things go, Cruz will likely point to Trump's earlier squishiness on immigration long before he became Americaâs greatest advocate for big, beautiful walls.
There is a question as to how much immigration is an issue to both primary voters and general election voters (everybody believes the issue they care about most is the issue most voters care about), so it remains to be seen how much damage this does. That said, it is a very effective ad. It's designed to put Rubio on the defensive and it is sure to do so.

... This is how Cruz beat Dewhurst. Used his own words and actions against him. That’s also why Cruz tries never to do anything against his core principles.
Get ready DT you are next.
BOOM goes the dynamite!
Ouch.
Bada BINGO.....
OUCH!!!
Donald the Democrat has so much material for Cruz to use on him too, his big mouth and all.
Trump has given PLENTY of ammunition.
Great ad. Dondi’s past comes back to bite him.
Yes. Ted fighting with the truth and a smile. DT won’t know what hit him.
Is it certain that Cruz - or his PAC - will eventually take Trump head on? Don’t know that it is...
Or is this simply trying to get over the top by siphoning enough of Rubio’s voters... Doesn’t seem likely. Hard to tell with certainty where the Rubio voters will scatter to (even though Cruz is doing very well as a second choice among other candidates followers).
It is worth noting that fellow candidate Rand Paul is positively portrayed in the ad. This might not just be about peeling voters off of Rubio, but also making a pitch to Rand Paul supporters to back Cruz in order to defeat Rubio.
Is that when Trump finally peaks and Cruz surges? Let me know when that actually happens.
I like both and will vote for either in the General but Cruz has no shot winning the General Election. Our Country has changed tremendously, demographically and culturally. I stopped living in the 1980s in the 1990s.
Eventually a head to head against the Donald is going to have to happen. Will it happen in time for Iowa?
Wow! One of the best campaign ads I have ever seen.
So........you're ghost posting on FR? ; )
Because I stopped living in the 80s during the 90s?
;)
It must be :)
Now, this is much more consequential than attacking his boots.
This will be fun until the video of Ted using the same language; “out of the shadows”, “path to ‘legalization”, in his own effort to triple plus increase the number of foreign temporary workers rotating in and out of the United States, while American parents paid for their college educated graduates to enter the workforce, only to find the higher skilled job market already loaded and staffed, with foreign workers.
Rubio & the Gang of 8 capped the foreign worker number at 65,000. Senator Teddy (as you call him) thought 325,000 was the call of the hour, and said so, on camera.
Do brace yourself.
