An incandescent used in a home that needs heat is 100% efficient already.

And the article is wrong about LED light. They come in warm colors just like incandescents.

They will cost as much as the new ones. Of all the problems the world had, Bush solved the problem of making sure I couldn’t have a normal lightbulb.

Ahole

Banning certain light bulbs never had anything to do with efficiency and everything to do with government control. One small piece at a time.

There’s no reason to continue banning incandescent bulbs because the alternatives have become cost competitive. Consumers should be able choose what best fits their application.

Remember all of the new cars that had their lights on in the daytime? The bulb mfgs just wanted to sell twice as many replacement headlights by burning the old ones out twice as fast.

LED and CFL bulbs emit radiation, so I for one will welcome efficient incandescents.

I would like to know which politician made the most money for getting CFL passed and to learn which one made the most from fouling up toilet flush and a host of other regulations that screwed the consumer, I’m sure there was more than one who made money but someone made the most, for each regulation.

It would take someone with the ability to follow the political money, which seems to be a lost art.

The clinical white beam of LEDs and frustrating time-delay of 'green' lighting has left many hankering after the instant, bright warm glow of traditional filament bulbs.

My wife has stockpiled 100s of incandescent light bulbs of all wattages, mostly 100 watt, but many of lesser wattage. We use several of the LED style bulbs, but only in places where the amount of light is a non-issue.

Of course the logical response by government is to outlaw any light bulb that derives is light by heating a wire.

These new bulbs will not be available until complete exclusive manufacturing rights can be finnagled for China, and until all the congress creeps and senators properly paid off, as was done with CF bulbs. The Chinese deal with CFs hasn’t lasted very long. They’re going to feel ripped off.

Doesn’t matter, the government banned them and they are gone.

Just like low sulfur diesel wasn’t needed because of the new catalytic emission control designs, doesn’t matter.

MIT might be a little late to the game.

LED bulbs have really come down in price and have increased in quality. LED bulbs really make a lot of sense for places where a bulb is difficult to change. And I have found that flashlights are the ideal application for an LED bulb...batteries (which are relatively expensive) last many times longer, with brighter light, when they have an LED bulb.

CFL bulbs are garbage. They cost more than incandescent bulbs and they’re a hazard if they break. If they’re used in a place where the light is switched on and off more than once a day, they don’t last any longer than incandescent bulbs. And if you use a CFL in a cold location, they take 5-10 minutes to achieve full brightness.
