Texas billionaire Darwin Deason and his son Doug are contemplating giving millions to help Ted Cruz win the White House. But first the Dallas investors need to sort out which super PAC should get their money.
At least eight independent political groups are jockeying to support Cruz now that he has risen in the polls as perhaps the strongest challenger to frontÂrunner Donald Trump. The dynamic has confused wealthy donors and brought disarray to the otherwise orderly political operation that surrounds the freshman senator from Texas.
âWeâre trying to figure out who has the best management team, the most efficient cost structure,â said Doug Deason, adding that he is a bit baffled by the various entities. âI just donât think we need a bunch of people doing different things, maybe putting out different messages that donât match up.â
The swelling number of pro-Cruz super PACs illustrates a challenge posed by the hands-on approach rich donors are taking in the 2016 elections. After seeing little return on the massive sums they gave in 2012, major conservative givers are now deeply immersed in the tactics of the groups they are financing â and in some cases, running their own political operations.

Was Jennifer Rubin out sick today?
Can they legally do that? I know that the Super Pacs are not allowed to coordinate with the candidate and his staff.
I don’t think there’s any thing legally against it, but the again I am not an attorney.
I see hundreds of puppet strings reaching down each with a hook waiting to grab Cruz.
Will this mean I won’t have to worry about Heidi being so worried about money anymore?
Nah...didn’t think so.
Heidi makes more in a year than you do in 10.
“I see hundreds of puppet strings reaching down each with a hook waiting to grab Cruz.”
No one puts a hook on Cruz.
PACs can talk to other PACs. No PACs can talk to the Cruz campaign. That is the law on PACs and campaigns. Congress could change those rules as they are the ones who put the PAC rules into law.
So does Hillary.
She does? Hillary who?
She does? Hillary who?
See what you want but it’s all speculation and wild theories with no real evidence. I could cite counter evidence in the form of his conservative voting record.
whoever is runnig his and his wifes money-begging spam needs to knock it off, they will not honor requests to stop after multiple requests.
Basically all the Cruz super-PACs need to get together and coordinate,Sounds good if egos and greed didn't get in their way.
Each one is separately interested in getting him elected, not because they love you, him or his message but because THEY want to ace the other guys out to wrest the control from him with no other influence.
You must at least admit he is persistent.
: )
And I guess you have inside information to tell us all this..
“an well organized Campaign”?
There was a time when someone who wrote a headline like that in a major newspaper would be delivering the papers the next day.
;-)
That struck me the same way.
